for me, i don't really need a trem
but i get confused that why this fat stratocaster only has 2 controls(volume/tone)?
i see that most of the stra. has 3 controls and i can't find another stra. with 2 controls, can anyone tell me?

Yes, better than your epi, its a Fender Standard Fat strat with a Floyd, just... the Floyd may be a pain in the ass at the start, but onceyou get used to it it'll be fine, That guitar looks soooo nice, where is it?

the reason it only has two tone controls is because it was probably made between 1983-1985, when Fender did alot to cut down on production costs. I say go try the guitar out (unless it's on ebay), and see if you like it. A good setup by a decent repair tech will put that thing into great playing condition.

Well, I just did a run of the serial number, and it says that the guitar should've been made 96-97, but I'd take the neck off to make sure it's not dated earlier, since Fender info isnt the best around. If it was made from 96-97, then my guess is it's an aftermarket pickguard.

Nope. The serial number dates it as built in 1996. Here's how modern Fender serial numbers break down:
First digit (letter) = country of origin. In this case, "M" is for Mexico
Second digit (letter) = decade of production. "N" is for 1990's.
Third digit (number) = last digit in the year of production. 6 = 1996.
Remaining digits = a unique number identifying this guitar.
Also, there were no Mexican Fenders until around 1990 or so.
I am guessing this is either a short-lived production model, or someone took a Mexi Strat and modded it.
I would say pass on this one. You can do better.

Okay, so I was wrong (I did say I was only "guessing"). You didn't need to be such a jerk about it.
I wonder why they decided to go with 2 knobs. Most of the other Mexi Strats built at that time had three knobs (I have one).

aftermarket = parts purchased separately from the "stock" instrument. Stock means how it comes directly from the factory. Seymour duncan pickups for example are aftermarket parts, unless of course they come equiped on a guitar.
