And now for something completely different? (Switch my JB with a...)

Hey there, tonal gurus of DOOOOOOM! ( :nana: )

I'm thinking about swapping my Duncan JB with something else. I'm currently using it in a PRS Custom 22, but I'm thinking that I possibly can get a little more out of the axe using a different pickup. As of now, I really dig the harshness from the JB, but I could do with a little more clarity and a tighter bass response, as well as a more focused sound. Therefore a few DiMarzios have entered my mind, like the Evolution. But still, I'd like to stay with Duncan, 'cause in many ways I prefer the Duncan ground tone to what DiMarzio generally does. I'm still open for suggestions for DiMarzios, though.

A possible route could be a lower output pickup, right? Any suggestions? I'd still like to have a certain harshness to the sound, as I play a lot of extreme metal, but I wouldn't die if the pickup had a really good clean tone as well... (Good driven tone, while still retaining a good clean tone.... Don't we all want that? :smack: )

For tighter low end maybe a Custom or C5 would be good?

Hmmm.... Guess I'll have to try them out, then.

Which one would be the more focused sounding? I really love pickups that have a really focused, tight mid-range as well as a sparkly top end for leads. Also, it should have a decent ammount of warmth.

I basically want my tone to be like a steel cutting torch, I guess. :) A tight, focused, cutting flame that's really warm and melting...

Duncan Custom, describes exactly what you´re looking for, see the clips on my site under "media" if you wanna hear 1 or 2 or 4 :headbang:

Have to agree with the others on the Custom. It should suit you. Got one in my LP, and I am very pleased. Try it out.

Well, I have had good success with the Tone Zone. Very tight low end..also an all around great pickup. Of course, it isn't a Duncan.

I call dibs on playing it first!!! No joke Morior, that's awesome! /\/\/\

I'd look into the custom like the other guys said. Also the screaming demon.

Sounds like I'm getting a Custom, then. :)

Sounds pretty cool. :) The guitar tone is a little on the bassy sides for my taste, though. But hey.... I'll be using my own gear, so it'll be fine. :)

Custom :D

Although, many PRS players on here really dig the Custom 5.

Hmmm... What's the difference between the Custom and the Custom5 soundwise?
