Anemic Splits

My son has a Strat with Duncan Distortion Bridge, Stock Middle and Hot Rail neck.

What we've done is to wire it up so that instead of mix's at pos 2 & 4 we have splits for the two humbuckers.

We got the diagram from http://www.guitarelectronics.com..

Now the problem is the splits sound anemic, thay are much lower in volume than the stock single coil and also a lot less than the splits in volume when comparied to the volume of the splits on my Les paul.
have we done anything wrong or is this normal( The splits are not really much use like this as there is to big a jump in the levels

HELP if Pos PLEASE

Re: Anemic Splits

What diagram did you use from that site? Do you still have the stock single coil wired up in the 3 position? Your split SD pickups may be out-of-phase with the middle pickup which would give the behavior you're describing. Assuming that's the case it should be easy to fix, but it might be the easiest to describe what to do if we knew what the wireing is you have in there now.

Re: Anemic Splits

That definately sounds like a phase problem. Try switching the hot and ground wire connections for the humbuckers. That may solve the problem.
