Another New Boogie Day!

I didn't want hijack the other NBD thread so...
I drove 2 1/2 hrs each way to pick up this beautiful Electra Dyne from GC in Grand Rapids Michigan today. I've been interested in them for a while and this is the first time one's come up near by in a while. At low volume it sounds incredible, I can't wait to take it to rehearsal and hear it cranked up.

Re: Another New Boogie Day!

Electra Dynes (I've owned one for around 5 years) sound OK at low volumes and killer at gig volumes.... so, if you're digging the low volume tone you'll probably really dig the high volume tone.

Also, depending upon it's age consider new power tubes. I've found a lot of people sell their amps because they think their tastes in amps have changed when in reality they just needed new tubes.

Re: Another New Boogie Day!

That’s both tragic and kind of funny.

I love those amps! First time I tried one I was using a 335 and every song you've ever heard with a 335...that tone was in there. B.B, Larry Carlton, Grohl...so much more. Loved it.

Congrats!

Re: Another New Boogie Day!

I'd always heard they had a great clean, but never heard much about the lo/hi gain modes, so I kind of brushed them off. Then a few months ago I was watching a rig rundown with Anthony Raneri from the band Bayside and he uses an Electra Dyne. So that got me interested and watching videos on YouTube until this one came up. I know I would have liked it had I bought it and had it shipped without trying it, but I'm glad I spent the 5hrs in the car just to make sure. Plus I spent $10 less on the gas than the shipping cost and had it home that day.

For someone like me who isn't as familiar with Mesa models (but very interested), can you sum up what the Electra Dyne's 'thing' is?

It's billed as American clean and British gain. It kind of reminds me of a Marshall Vintage Modern with a Blackface clean mode.

Three channels that are roughly Fender, Plexi and Modded Plexi, only Mesa flavoured, so more low midrange.

Re: Another New Boogie Day!

Besides the fact it's one of Mesa's more classic toned amps, I think it's Mesa's best looking amp head.
