Another Pickup Choice Question...

I'm sorry to bother you guys with yet another one of these questions, but I'm thinking about switching out my EMG's for some nice passive pickups. And I'd like to know what bridge pickup you guys would suggest for mostly metal, so that means low end crunch with that crunchy sizzling sound, screaming leads with great harmonics that will ring out for awhile, and clarity.. I can't stress that enough! Also I think it should be versatile enough that it can have decent cleans.

I was thinking the Bill Lawrence L-500XL, or maybe the Dimebucker (from what I've heard it's great for all that). You guys probably have some better suggestions... anyway thanks in advance

the l500xl. with an l500l in the neck. and make sure you get them from www.billlawrence.com. i dont want to get into a "this is the real company" battle here, who cares which one is the "real" one or the "original" but the ones from that website are the GOOD ones.

Yes, the 81b is a workable clean tone, and the 60 is pretty nice.

ok then the clean tones on the l500 will be fine. i highly reccomend it.

I am a user of Bill Lawrence XL-500 and L-500C. They will do the job for you nicely!

I have played the Dimebucker and can say that I MUCH preffer the XL-500 to it! I found the Dime to sound like a buzz saw and it does not have as much clarity as the XL-500. Though the XL-500 is outstanding for metal, it is the most versatile pickup I have ever played! It does almost everything VERY well!
There is a long wait time for the Bill Lawrences but, I may be able to be talked out of mine for the right deal????

BTW, the L-500C in the neck is very clean! Its bright for a neck pickup and will NEVER get muddy like alot of neck buckers do!

The XL-500 has great clarity and sings when playing leads stuff much like a JB but, I find it much more pleasing to the ears than a JB! It is also a tight sounding pickup!

They mix very well for me! I dont notice much of a drop either. Yea, the C is way underwound but, you have got to remember there is alot more string vibration over top of the neck pickup vs. the bridge pickup! It works out well in my opinion!

Thanks Theodie, that's actually the most helpful bit of info on the L-500XL I've heard yet! How long of a wait are you talking about for the Bill Lawrence pickups?
