You're not wrong in that those are typical of the topography of those amps, but, it's not the actual reason they sound the way they do. In the case of my AOR, there is little difference between EL34's and 6L6s aside from the midrange voice at higher levels. As far as the rectifier goes, the filtering has more impact on behavior than the rectifier itself. Every amp is different and reacts differently to different tubes AND how those tubes are set up.

Short answer; it depends.

Yup. Pretty much just me playing around...because I could...and I had the time and all the parts in stock. We techs get bored too!

G-man, another question for you on AOR,
now that my V1 is A+B (ala Vinnie Moore ), with pre-amp at 3 o'clock, its monster of a tone with the invader(soon to be switched to fullshred) in the bridge, but its a bit noisy ... I really wanna stay away from noise gates ... do you think HumX

That's kinda out of my realm but if the noise is a hiss, a gate is probably your best option. You can add small value bypass caps (~50pF or so) across you plate resistors but it will affect the treble response. If it's a hum, and present with the guitar volume turned all the way down, converting V1 to a DC filament supply or a DC bias on all the filaments may help for 60Hz hum. Those hum reducing boxes seem to help when you have created a ground loop (120Hz hum) such as when you are jumping multiple amps but if there is no potential for a ground loop, but still 120Hz hum, better shielding and/or better shielded cables are better things to look into.

No effect on tone what-so-ever. It only affects the filaments (heaters) and eliminates their ability to induce hum at the cathode.
