Any ideas? Medium output Les Paul bridge

Re: Any ideas? Medium output Les Paul bridge

I have a Les Paul I love. It has a SD59 in neck and a Seth Lover in the bridge. I love it but I do have an Epi Sheraton with a Seth Lover bridge too and I think the guitars sound too similar. What's the use of two guitars if they sound almost the same, right? So I decided to keep the Seth in the Sheraton and go get myself a bridge pu for the Les Paul with a little bit more bite. First idea was DiMarzios classic Superdistortion, but they were too edgy for me.

So I'm basically looking for something between Seth Lovers and Superdistortions. But I have never played anything in that medium output range. Got any ideas? Preferably something working with my good old SD59 bridge that I use in the neck, best Les Paul neck pickup ever IMHO.
I been saying for a long time, the Pegasus is a killer pickup. They market it as a prog metal pup but it can do anything except single coil cleans. Not too hot, just like Mama Bears milk, just right. String to string separation is awesome and when you want heavy, it will do that as well. Cant recommend it enough, but I like to be different

Another vote for the 59 / Custom Hybrid. It falls between a 59 and the SH5 and you have already been told it falls between and vintage and more modern sound humbucker. Be forewarned It sounds great in SG's.

Pearly Gates bridge, Pearly Gates Plus (a factory Fender pickup that you can track down used), or Burstbucker #3. That's a nice middle ground between a Seth and a Super Distortion. If you want a bit more output that that, then try a '59/C Hybrid or a Screamin' Demon.

Re: Any ideas? Medium output Les Paul bridge

To me, that is an area where there is a big hole in the market. I like the Burstbucker 3, but it can be a little bright. The slash bridge works well and is a little warmer.

Re: Any ideas? Medium output Les Paul bridge

Well, what would be a good name for the Demon?

As much as I love all things SD in the Vintage/Medium range - PG A2 Pro, 59s. There really is something special about a Bareknuckle Mule. It’ll set you back about the same as a SD custom order but never disappoints

59/Custom hybrid should do the trick. You want a pickup that's right down the line between a hot 80s rock humbucker and a PAF. Well guess what? The 59/C has a coil from both, combining both of their respective strengths.

. . . i 2nd the 59/Custom.

Re: Any ideas? Medium output Les Paul bridge

36th anniversary is a great mid output pickup. probably my favorite of all time.
I have a full shred set which i love. the bridge pickup is somewhere between a mid and a high output pickup, though the attack makes it seemed higher than it really is. I think this would sound great in a les paul.

Re: Any ideas? Medium output Les Paul bridge

I'd look at either the Air Norton or Air Zone.
Both are fantastic sounding and feeling medium output humbuckers.

Re: Any ideas? Medium output Les Paul bridge

I have a ‘59/Custom Hybrid in an all-mahogany Fret-King Esprit 5 and a Whole Lotta Humbucker in my PRS McCarty. Both sound great and I think both would get you pretty close to what you’re after.

Btw, OP, maybe you wanna start by trying to magswap an A8 into your bridge pickup before throwing money at anything?
