Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

I haven't played any of the new stuff they have out, so I'll confine my comments to what I've played: You might pay more than your $1k budget, but a used RR1 would be an amazing guitar. A used RR5 (they made them in a hardtail with white/pinstripe and gold hardware) should be a lot less than a used USA model, but it would still be pretty sweet. I've even played some of the old Pro Series RR3 with the bolt-on neck, and those were great, too. But neck-through is the way to go if you want the authentic Rhoads experience.

Two key things you'll need to decide:

1) Trem or hardtail?
2) 22 frets or 24?

I really like my older Jackson DK2Ms. I'd like to try the new hardtail versions (DK2MHT)

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

Had imports, a string through 7 string, Rhoads w/Floyd and no guard, and a PS2. All 3 were really good players and the stock pickups sounded great, too. The other that I still have is a Charvel 275 Deluxe....same thing! It plays like butter.

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

I am NOT a str@t fan . . .

. . . but i always said, IF i had a gun against my head, and i had to pick a str@t-like guitar, it would deff be this :

. . . this IS one str@t shap that i could rock.

YIKES . . . i just remembered/saw, it is a Charvel . . . not a Jackson - SORRY !

Are they not linked somehow ?
The two Co's ??

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

They are the same...

Deferent....yet same. Not to nit pick, but I wanted to interject.. To say they are the same wouldnt be 100% accurate. I mean, now that Fender owns both, they are more the same.

Sirjackfuzz,

Real quick hist.. Grover Jackson was the Genius behind both. He made Charvels, which were basically hot rodded strats. He and Randy Rhoads came up with the "concord" (Randy's V) and since Grover thought it may be Too radical a shape to put the Charvel name on (since Charvel's were known as super strats) He put the Jackson name on that guitar and thus Jackson was born. Jacksons were then made as neck thrus and the more radical shapes, where as Charvels maintain their bolt ons and such.

Back to original topic. I love Jacksons and I REALLY Love Charvels!! Jackson now has that low end line (cant think of the models) but they are a pretty nice way to get into one at low dough. But, Ive played a few and they definately dont feel the same as the top gun ones tho..

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

My main axe right now is a Soloist. 2 humbucker model, all mahogany. (SL2H MAH) Phenomenal guitar, my wife got it for me for my 40th birthday (early) and I can't be happier. Great craftsmanship, great tone, I love the neck (some might think it is a bit thin) and great feel overall. It really sings. I got it used and you can get some crazy deals on used Soloists if they are your thing. I've seen some solid color models, albeit not in perfect shape, for around a $1K. I'll post a pic of mine when I get home.

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

I've always been a Jackson Fanboi. I love their necks, and their looks are wicked.

They have great players as sponsored and they always seem to put great guitars into the hands of the average musician's price-range.

I love them, hardly ever been a day when I haven't strummed one... even their low-end models have some serious rocking power!

And Randy used to play them, that's how I got my first drool started for them...

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

Woooooooooooooooooooh!

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

Grover's current brand is GJ2 Guitars. The shop in my neighborhood has several signed by Grover. "Route 1 Guitars" in Milford ct if you decide you need one.

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

My first electric was an '89 Charvel DR3 Dinky, so yeah, I'm a Jackson guy. I currently have 6 of them.

Here's all of them except the basket case Performer Dinky.

The DK2S Sustainiac Dinky (MIJ):

And the Eerie Dess Dinky (MIJ), the USA King V, the USA Soloist, and the JS Series King V, along with my Epiphone Les Paul Custom:

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

I usually don't go for shredsticks all that much anymore, but, I always did have a soft spot for this Jackson soloist, with the painted flames and all lol

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

I have two '90s era USA Jacksons, though neither are typical. One is a SweeTone Jazz'r P-90 (seen below) and the other is a prototype, short-scale JJ bass.

Re: Any Jackson Guitar Fans here?

I'd really like a USA made Kelly. However, since they are not as common as the soloist, used deals seem very hard to come by. (And I'm not paying the new price....)

I like bolt on Jackson Pros just fine, they're near the top for me. Great necks with huge frets.
