That Newport was $850 at G.C. Quality blew me away for that price....don't think you can beat that. Reading about their construction methods on their web site impressed me. So quality doesn't seem to be a fluke. What I want to try is a mahogany or korina P-90 Artist. Haven't noticed any of those for sale yet, but just started looking.HamerPlyr said:Kidding! I'm obviously a Hamer devotee. I think that they build the best guitars out there, especially when you tag that with "for the money". Personally, I wouldn't buy a new Hamer unless I just had so much money that I didn't know what to do with it. There are enough of them that can be had in great shape for a great price that I just can't bring myself to pay for a new one. Hamer USA is basically hand-building vintage guitars that you can buy used for $700-$1200, dependent upon model. How can you beat that?

Symptoms:
-a distinct affinity with 80s-era 'physical therapy' playing styles.
-fits of uncontrollable anger at the mention of words such as 'Cobain', 'Grunge' and 'hip hop'.
-a distinct taste for 80s super strat mosquito tone machines.
Prognosis: non fatal.

You must be seeing imports or, if they're Hamer USA, old models like the Diablo, Scarab, Chapparal, etc. The Artist, Studio, FM, Daytona, etc. are anything but Jackson-like.DesertRose said:Hahaha ...
Hamer is one of the rare guitars available in my local shop. If I hadn't read the magazines, I wouldn't know what Hamer guitars are. Anyway they're really Jackson look-alike guitars to me.
Every company has dogs occasionally (I always try to play everything a lot before I buy it), but it's easier to keep those dogs from going out the door when you have 10 people producing 3 guitars a day than it is for a giant corporation producing thousands each day.Zhangliqun said:If there was no Gibson, I'd be a Hamer guy. If neck profile is a huge deal with you, ask a lot of question of the seller if you can't play it in person. Neck shape and thickness has varied from year to year in most models, and in some cases, even within the same model year.
Do me a favor, ok? Don't tell anybody that I told you this. I wouldn't want to screw up the market for myself.
What? This isn't a PM? Crap!!!
