I really don't have an opinion, one way or the other.

Kidding! I'm yust keedin'! lol

I'm obviously a Hamer devotee. I think that they build the best guitars out there, especially when you tag that with "for the money". Personally, I wouldn't buy a new Hamer unless I just had so much money that I didn't know what to do with it. There are enough of them that can be had in great shape for a great price that I just can't bring myself to pay for a new one. Hamer USA is basically hand-building vintage guitars that you can buy used for $700-$1200, dependent upon model. How can you beat that?

If neck profile is a huge deal with you, ask a lot of question of the seller if you can't play it in person. Neck shape and thickness has varied from year to year in most models, and in some cases, even within the same model year.

Do me a favor, ok? Don't tell anybody that I told you this. I wouldn't want to screw up the market for myself.

What? This isn't a PM? Crap!!!

Very very sweet alternative to that "other" company with the QC issues

If there was no Gibson, I'd be a Hamer guy. But trust me, Hamer makes dogs too...

That Newport was $850 at G.C. Quality blew me away for that price....don't think you can beat that. Reading about their construction methods on their web site impressed me. So quality doesn't seem to be a fluke. What I want to try is a mahogany or korina P-90 Artist. Haven't noticed any of those for sale yet, but just started looking.

Regressive Guitar Noodler. (Republican Guitar Noodler?)

Symptoms:

-a distinct affinity with 80s-era 'physical therapy' playing styles.
-fits of uncontrollable anger at the mention of words such as 'Cobain', 'Grunge' and 'hip hop'.
-a distinct taste for 80s super strat mosquito tone machines.

Prognosis: non fatal.

Sounds similar to what I have, but I don't quite have those symptoms. Maybe I have a slightly "older" version. I tend to lapse into "NEIL" moments and get stuck on one note!

Hahaha ...

Hamer is one of the rare guitars available in my local shop. If I hadn't read the magazines, I wouldn't know what Hamer guitars are. Anyway they're really Jackson look-alike guitars to me.

You must be seeing imports or, if they're Hamer USA, old models like the Diablo, Scarab, Chapparal, etc. The Artist, Studio, FM, Daytona, etc. are anything but Jackson-like.

Every company has dogs occasionally (I always try to play everything a lot before I buy it), but it's easier to keep those dogs from going out the door when you have 10 people producing 3 guitars a day than it is for a giant corporation producing thousands each day.

Hamer is one of the VERY few companies that I'd risk buying a guitar sight unseen, but I'd still much rather play it first.

Re: Any opinions on Hamer guitars?

I have a Hamer Standard explorer shaped guitar, korina. Prior owner put dice knobs and switch tip on it. :headbang: Duncan designed pups, which I'm pretty sure is the HB102 set, although the neck sounds more like a 59 than a Jazz, and they sound more "low-fi" than a Duncan.

The Hamer plays well and hangs right because of the rear strap button, which is above the center of gravity...I had a 1990 Gibbo Explorer 58 reissue as well and got rid of the Explorer because the Hamer played better and sounded better.

You told me not to touch them because they'll give you genital warts, Did they take care of that problem?

Re: Any opinions on Hamer guitars?

I bought a new Hamer Monaco Elite off of Ebay a few months back. I wanted an LP type/heavier wood etc., guitar and got a great deal on it, warranty and all. ($1500, brand new, never owned, although it was a floor model. I see them new for $2500 usually) I played a whole bunch of guitars at GC for hours to figure out what I liked. (didn't buy any from them though, really didn't like most of them) I did buy it sight unseen, never played it or saw it live. (just photos)

Honestly, its one of the best guitars I've ever played. I've been to GC a few times since and played PRS/Gibsons, etc. I always go back to my Hamer and go man, I love this guitar. The PRS McCarty and some of the higher end LPs (depends on the guitar), CAN be compareable, but not consistenly so imo. I have two other cheaper guitars, an Epi LP (which isn't a bad guitar by any means) and a cheap Fender squire. I can't even play them anymore, the Hamer just feels, sounds, and plays SO much better than them. The balance on it is just superb. For some reason my Epi LP seems neck heavy, where as my Hamer is just balanced on my body and effortless to play. I'm spoiled! I'd buy another Hamer in a heartbeat. Can't recommend them enough.
