Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

I already have a 2004 modded MIA with a JB/59' setup. I am in search of a good backup guitar. My plans to put together another MIA fell through because I bought a MIA body off ebay and once it arrived I found that there were scratches on it and it wasn't in MINT condition as the seller claimed. Now I am sending the body back to the seller and getting a refund. The body color I bought from him was a discontinued color and I'm unsure that I'll be able to get my hands on one thats in absolute MINT condition. Right now I'm considering other guitar options in case things don't work out with the MIA I wanna put together. The backup guitar will most likely get a Custom/Jazz or Distortion/Jazz pickup setup. I'm willing to spend up to $1000.00. Anyone have any recommendations on what guitars I should look into?

Re: Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

I dont know if it is your thing or not but, I love my Jackson soloist!!!! They are hard to beat!!!! Here is a Nice Japanese made SL-4 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3759200212&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
You could buy that and still have plenty of cash left over. BTW, it should have a Jb trembucker at the bridge and a standard spaced JB in the neck from the factory. Warning, I had a hot rodded strat before I got a SL-4 and when I got the Jackson I quickly sold the Fender!!!!

Hamer USA Studio. You can pick one up on Ebay for $700 or less in most cases.

Music Man Sub 1...........Excellent quality, best neck I've ever played and it's made in the USA. Got mine at GC for $525 new!!

Why couldn't you have gotten it at Mom & Pop's for 550? Was that 25 dollars really worth it's price in domestic jobs?

anyway...

my advice would be a higher end Epiphone, like a Pual Custom or maybe an Elitish model. They're usually pretty nice and I'll stand by them.

ESP Mirage II.
Kick butt guitars at a great price.

It's called the M-II Standard

this was my choice, since one of my main guitars is a EB/MM Silo Special..the SUB1's are great guitars.

Huh? Im all for *not* supporting Guitar Center, however, Epi's are made overseas. An EB/MM is a US made guitar.

how about a MIM strat? heavily modded to your liking.

I have owned a few MIM's and I honestly didn't care for them. In fact I upgraded from a MIM to an MIA and couldn't believe how comfortable the neck of the MIA's felt in comparison to the MIM's. I think If I was gonna get another strat I'd stick with the MIA's. Thanks for the recommendation though dude, it's much appreciated. :)

Re: Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

I'm thinking more along the lines of perhaps a Gibson Les Paul Standard or Les Paul Studio or perhaps an ESP/LTD EC-1000. Anyone got any info on those to throw out there?

Re: Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

A good studio can be a fine guitar and is great with phat cats or many other pup combos but you've got to play them first - lotsa lemons for the unwary but they are generally not expensive.

Re: Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

i was gonna suggest MIM, but hey...

looked into like fret king and the like? they make strat copies in america, and they're damned nice..

Re: Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

A "back-up" to me is if something happens to your main axe, you can grab the backup & pickup where you left off.....as far as a backup goes, I'd get another MIA. Maybe go crazy & get a different color :laugh2:

Sounds to me like you want a 2nd guitar....

Re: Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

Used Hamer Studio. They beat the snot out of most of Gibson's detail work. I know, I have a LP AND a Hamer.

+1

For a grand you can get an another quite cool used MIA. The best you can do, really.

Re: Any Recommendations For A Backup Guitar?

I don't have backup guitars, really. I normally haul 2 guitars to any show. Les Paul Custom and a Tele. Those two instruments give me whatever I may need. To be fair, though, I look for instruments that feel similar to each other for me. A LP and a Tele feel enough alike for me to use them for an evening. An SG and a Strat feel similar, too.... Maybe look for an SG?
