A "back-up" to me is if something happens to your main
axe, you can grab the backup & pickup where you left off.....as far as a backup goes, I'd get another MIA. Maybe go crazy & get a different color :laugh2:

Sounds to me like you want a 2nd guitar....

Well.... I have considered getting a backup guitar for a few different reasons.

1) I wanna leave one guitar in Standard Tuning and leave another in a dropped tuning.

2) If a string happens to break or something else happens to go wrong I wanna have a reliable axe around that I can count on. I'm all about quality. Reguardless of it being a backup guitar, I'm going to get something good. I have never believed in buying super cheap gear. I'd rather buy an expensive good quality backup guitar and have no regrets of buying it than buying some cheap P.O.S. then sit there and wonder if I wasted my money after I bought it.

3) I like the JB in my MIA, however, I want to put either a Distortion or Custom in the bridge of the backup guitar so I have a guitar for heavier stuff also. I love the clarity of the JB but it lacks in the area of bass and doesn't give the "thump" of a Custom or Distortion. I would like to have somewhat of a variety in the tone department between the two guitars I would have.

4) My MIA has a maple fretboard and I was gonna get a backup guitar with a rosewood fretboard for a darker tone.

Perhaps your right Puck, Maybe I am suffering from a case of Gear Addiction Syndrome, after all, I do believe there are alot of people on here (won't name names or anything ;) ) who have more guitars than they will ever have time to play. :laugh2:

I recently bought the Gibson Mahogany STudio from Musicians friend, $899 and they come with awesome pups, the Alnico 5 BurstBucker Pro humbuckers these things are awesome. The guitar plays really nice and isn't too heavy, just sounds and feels totally pro for a decent price, including hard case. You may even find that it becomes #1 guitar. You can tap the pups using the extra wire and the tone controls so that you have a single coil sound too, doesn't damage the guitar but adds a lot of sonic possibilities. I gaurantee you that you want regret it.
