Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

If I could pick one guitar to permanently not exist anymore, it would be the Ibanez RG.

I'm just sayin, they've got Jacksons right there, Charvels over there, a big stack of Kramers over there...who needs RG's?

Players who don't look at the headstock.

I've got an 84 kramer baretta and I prefer my RGT to it. That said, the trem was crap so I had to block it. But the action is at 0.025" at the 12th fret without any buzz, so I can deal with it.

I thought basswood sucked until I discovered dimarzio pickups. Now it has a fat tone that's still cutting. The necks just require getting use to.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

So, I own a cheap Indonesian RG321 with a fixed bridge. a bit of fret dressing and some duncans, and this thing plays better than the expensive guitars I own.

+1. I have an RG321 as well. I replaced all the electronics, put a Jazz pickup in the neck, a Full Shred in the bridge, and smoothed the frets. The neck pickup sounds beautiful, and the bridge gives some of the clearest, tightest tone around. With the right Duncans, these guitars can really shine.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

I had a Vai Jem for awhile, but got tired of having the trem worked on everytime I changed strings.
Never owned another Iby since. I'm just too hung up on my Pauls.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

I still think that the edge trem is superior to a floyd rose, but I'm not a big fan of either. I was really happy when they introduced those RGA models though.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

i have that exact guitar, hence me being in this thread ;)

tuning is solid as a rock.. it's a really classy looking guitar in the flesh! i could easily have two, one with high output pickups, and one with vintage-output ones.

the body's very sculpted, it almost reminds me more of an S series.. like SG thinness.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

I already replied to this thread, talking about my RG470NP. Since it was brought back up, I'll post a pic. It isn't a pic of my RG. It's one I found on the Net. Plus, mine sported a set of DiMarzio Breed humbuckers.

I really did like this guitar; however, changing strings and tuning the fresh strings was a nightmare. Also, as I started getting back into Teles, Blues, Jazz, and Country playing, and especially my pensive for Tele-modding, the RG would have sat dormant for a few years...

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

My RG570 is a very sweet guitar... I don't care what anyone says about these.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

I have a 2000 or so RG320 that I got for free... The trem was completely strung wrong, missing parts, etc... So I ordered the parts from Ibanez, and now it's a really nice playing guitar... The Lo-TRS-II isn't the best floyd I've used, but with some proper setup and lubrication on the knife edges, its pretty good. I'm thinking of changing the Powersound pickups for some Dimarzio's...

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

The higher end "prestige" models are really nice.
I played that new 1 pickup RG model, and it was super slick!!!

And the RGA's are freaking sweet!

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

I hate a love-hate relationship with my Prestige RG. I hate the trem, and I love everything else! It could be an OFR and I'd still hate it though, I just don't get along with floating trems.

THe playability is so good though! That kept me from selling it.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

IMO
With every guitar there are pro's and con's.
& I think of them as tools. RG's are a specific tool for a specific type of playing.

I love to shred on an RG!

I wish they had more variety of colors for flame/quilted tops & more high end fixed bridge models

3 i'm deciding between, although this purchase won't be for a while, so i'll have to check out the 2008 models

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

For those complaining about the Edge Trem, it's a simple matter of learning how it works and UNDERSTANDING fully what it is doing. Everything is in balance and it requires patience. I also have found frequently that the people with the most problems use inconsistent/hand-wound strings.

I have taken all the strings off of my RG750FA, removed the bridge, cleaned it with soap and water, dried it with forced air, put it back in and installed a fresh set of strings, and once they were stretched out and tuned to pitch, it's floating in exactly the same place as it was before. Piece of cake.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

My RGs dont get the play time my others do anymore. I need to scare up some cash so I have to sell my 550 reissue. Its making me very sad to sell her as its a great player and I think wicked looking..

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

Played one today through a VHT pitbull and Marshall Vintage modern. It sounded/played great through both. I never gave an Ibanez a change before. It was a nice guitar

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

I love RG's, especially RG550's. However, I cannot stand the super thin Wizard neck. I slapped this project together and it's my favorite guitar. I had to rout the neck pocket a bit to fit the Kramer neck, which has a back contour that I really like. Evolution bridge, stock middle single coil, and Breed neck pickup. I just upgraded the trem to an original Edge, black to match the hardware (not in this picture) so now she's complete.

Where is this pile of Kramers and Charvels? Also, no piles of quality Jacksons here.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

i love my RG321MH. RG's have the slim wizard necks that makes it great guitars. although the stock pickups are crap, replacing them with duncans amkes the guitar sing. :1:

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

I'll pickup up a bolt-on shredder later this year. No particular reason other than "just because".

I don't have anything against Ibanez, in fact I think the rights years of Blazers are among the best hardtail Strats ever built.

But for the shredder, I think I'll prefer to pick up something that has an original Floyd Rose and a normal Strat pickguard, such as a Kramer Focus 3000. I wouldn't like to discover "oh no, this particular Ibanez trem is a POS". And I want fast-switching pickup combos, hence the Strat pickguard.

Re: Anybody else love-playing Ibanez RG guitars

Sounds like you want an RG550. The best trem ever offered, pickguard, fast neck, and cheap.
