take2 said:It sounds like the old Power Soaks that were disigned by the guitarist for Boston - Shultz (?). I think Marshall makes an Attenuater (spell check anyone) that does the same thing. In general these things make good sense but you don't see many people using them for some reason. For 20 bucks though I agree you should check it out and then let us know what you think.![]()

Kent S. said:That isn't a Sholtz power soak, those were about 12"x10"x3.5" or so, they were a big power resistor box (lot's of vent holes), with selectable impedances and a tube or solid state amp switch ... I used to use one, did a good job at what it was meant to do BTW. Marshall makes the Power Brake, same idea. That thing in the pic looks like an in-line volume control for a preamp for use in the loop ... like MRID stated.
the guy who invented fire said:no it is not a power soak, and for the record no noe should EVER use a power soak...Using a Sholtz PS is the fastst way to kill a tube amp next running it w/o a speaker load!

Only a kind of master volume put thru the FX loop. Doesnt saturate the power tubes at all.

has your amp got an 'effect loop level' control?
