Anyone else like the pipes?

Judicious use of pipes can be absolutely fantastic, uilleann pipes and Scottish bagpipes especially.

Here in the north of Spain the local "gaita" seem to be tuned higher and can very easily sound shrill.

Ever stood in an enclosed space next to a bagpipe player?

I can understand if they are your heritage and you dig them. That makes sense. The pipes represent a lot more than a quaint folk instrument to Celtic cultures. But not having any kind of familial connection, they are hard for me to appreciate. They are always really loud and mostly out of tune.

Once or twice a year when I was a kid Dad would don kilt & sporran and march up and down the yard playing his bagpipes.
All our small-town Wisconsin neighbors probably thought he was out of his mind.
His pipes disappeared somewhere over the years. Wish I'd got them.
For a while he had a blazer in the family hunting tartan, too.

Scots represent! My Dad was Scottish.
