anyone familiar with protools hardware?

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

Nope.

IIRC, The MBox's use the ol Digi001 converters.

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

how to they compare to the converters in the 002?

the reason i ask is because when my band does our next recording, i'm probably going to track guitars through my mbox for the convenience of portability, because my lazy *** drummer, who has the 002, doesn't want to haul his computer and rack out of the basement where his drums are set up :laugh2:

with that said, i've managed to get a pretty good recorded guitar tone using my mbox, especially after getting some decent mics. but would there be any noticable difference in sound between the 002 and the mbox (all other variables being equal)?

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

When you get it all mixed in... there probably won't be too much of a difference.

That said, with either, I'd use a different pre.

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

word. i've got a presonus bluetube DP that i bought recently, which i know isn't the greatest, but i couldn't pass up the deal. put a tung sol 12ax7 in it earlier but i still have to see how it sounds now. just gotta wait for the girlfriend to go home so i can mic up the amp and do a couple tracks without any bickering going on in the background :laugh2:

anywho, i'll probably end up doing it on the mbox. i'll post some clips when it's done.

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

You have a girl over and are on a guitar forum? That's just... that's horribly wrong. That reminds me of the quote...

"Any man that can kiss a pretty girl while driving is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves."

But yeah, Presonus makes solid stuff, that should work out.

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

Do what thou will but I would use the Focusrite Mbox pre's over a bluetube anyday.

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

Wait... is the blutetube that 100 dollar GC preamp? I think I was thinking of the Eureka.

I'd agree with Vinterland on that one. Sorry.

Re: anyone familiar with protools hardware?

i think the $100 one you're thinking of the tubepre. the bluetube is the 2 channel model that has pretty much all the same features as the tubepre. in fact, i'm pretty convinced that it's two tubepres in one unit with a slightly different control layout.
