Anyone got any good 30-50 watt amp reccomendations?

I'm in a band, need a nice tube amp from 30-50 watts, I'm pretty much only looking at used amps since I'm not looking to spend more than $600 in total, but if there are good new amps in that category, I'm open. I don't need to get ridiculously heavy, nothing any heavier than Jimmy Page. I'm looking for reccomendations that aren't so obvious, something that I might have to do a bit of hunting to find that are really good and a bit obscure.

Thanks alot,
Jacob

Peavey classic 50 212. Try it out and youll see. Best valued tube amp out there. Another good one is traynor, but Im not sure how common they are. Only on dealer in my town has them, but they have a few which i have tried(its the music shoppe I spend tons of time at). very nice cleans and overdrive, but I prefer the Peavey classic... which I own. Ive modded mine quite a bit, but stock it has great cleans and a very usable overdrive.

Ampeg Reverberocket. When I first checked it out I wasn't even looking for an amp, but after checking one out I had to get it. They're about $700 new, but on e-bay you can get one for about half that. Awesome clean tones, and the distortion channel growls more than it crunches (much better than a Hot Rod). I can't say enough about it; it still makes me smile.

Carvins version of the Peavy is pretty nice too. May be hard to find used but I believe they have a pretty detailed website. I have a CarvinX Amp 50W, I paid $100. The cleans on this Amp are excellent. The Drive is not so hot. I only use it for jamming really. Some of the newer ones are much better.

You might be able to get a used Rivera in that price range. They excel at having both Fender-ish clean and Marshall-like crunch.

If you're looking for a new amp, the Peavey Classic series is my favorite in that price range.

Re: Anyone got any good 30-50 watt amp reccomendations?

The all-tube Traynor CV series are kick-butt amps for certain! I have a CV-40 (40watt) that gets beautiful chimey harmonics, good Marshall-like crunch and a nice singing sustain.

Some of the newer Fender Deluxe's (all tube w/ channel switching) aren't bad either.

And in your price range, too!

as a conneseur of distortion, i'll hafta dissagree. See, with a fender, with the drive all the way up, and more drive on, you get like toxic doses of crunch, which you jsut can't get with pedals. But growl? pshh, take your pick, most od pedals were meant to growl

then again, i use many types of drive in a given day

for that price you can't go wrong with a used dsl 401 or a jcm 800 or 900 combo.

www.v-seriesamps.com

made by st. louis music (Crate/Ampeg) Don't let the name fool you though, sounds nothing like those crap crate tube amps. These things seriously rock and are regarded as the best sounding reasonably priced tube amps on the market now. I have the 50 watter and it kicked the **** out of the marshall head I was comparing it to at the time. Don't take my word for it though, go try one. Guitar center still stocks them I believe.

Re: Anyone got any good 30-50 watt amp reccomendations?

Not sure id recommend a tube amp to a 16 year old unless they have a job. You have to fork over 150-200 bucks on tubes in order to keep the thing playable, and not only that but they tend to have fuse blowing problems in tube amps. If I wanted something reliable, I'd just get a Line 6 Flextone III or something. Line 6's have the tube sound without the tube and fuse hassle. :headbang:

Are you kiding? I can retube my classic 30 With JJ tubes from Eurotubes.com for $60 and I don't see why everyone goes on about tubes being problematic. As far as fuses I have yet to blow one. And I bought my CLassic 30 used for $300.

BTW: For your application the 50/212 or 50/410 would probably be the best but you might be able to use a Classic 30 with the 1-12 ext. cab.
