Anyone have an ebow?

Or tried one? Always thought the idea was kinda cool, but I've never laid hands on an ebow. Worth the cash?

It’s a fun toy for a while. Then I got over it and haven’t used it in a few years. There are some that really get into it, but I used it for looping drones to add additional guitar over.

I use mine all the time. I have one from the mid 70s, and one from the 90s. An Ebow, a volume pedal and a delay is a very fun day.

I've had one since the late '80's, then bought a second one for cheapsies later down the road.

I go back and forth with them, just like everything else.
At times they get their day in the sun and are awesome.
Other times they sit unused for stretches of time.

Its not so much the ebow, its more your personality and what kind of music you're into that will dictate how often you'll use it.
But yes, volume pedal, delay and ebow, very nice, very nice.

I'd try to find one used...if they're working, they're working, I don't think I've ever heard of a ebow actually 'going bad'.

I have one. Only rare occasion where I play a song that needs it. But good to have in the back pocket. Need to experiment with it more. Could become a regular sound I pull out.

I always find a way to use it on recordings. It is really fun to make the guitar sound like some unidentifiable instrument. I tend to use mine with long delays and loops.

Is there a difference between the old and the new ones? It looks like the older ones can be picked up for cheaper.

The old ones are chrome, and don't have a switch. They are also slightly larger. They turn on when you get them close to the strings and turn off after 5 minutes of not using it. The ones with the switch have the switch sticking out a bit, so it is easy to accidently turn it on and run the battery down.

Sound-wise, the older one takes a little longer to 'catch' the string, but that is what makes it a lot more touch-sensitive.

Good God, man, I didn't know they were making them in the '70's (the chrome ones)
Those things are like ancient alien artifacts.
Both mine are black w/ switches.

I got my 70s one (in a cool leather holster) used in the late 80s.

I'm not really into **** that vibrates in my hand, or anywhere else for that matter. You guys have issues

I have one sitting right in front of me. I mess around with it every now and then. If you actually take the time and learn how to "play it" per se, some really cool sounds can be made with them. I recorded a song with mine about 20 years ago, and I got some pretty cool bowed and staccato cello/violin type sounds with it.

Have you ever used one? The eBow itself doesn't vibrate at all. It just sits on two surrounding strings and causes the third string in between to vibrate. That's it.

Mick Ronson is probably my all time favorite guitarist. He used one on "Heros" so yeah, I get what it does and it's appeal. I'm just not that interested in them. I have a Violin bow, no interest in using that a'la Jimmy Page. I'd probably be more inclined to use a Sustainiac system. I'm just not interested in holding anything but a pick. About as gimmicky as I get is a thumb pick. Only as it relates to playing the blues. It's great that you guys love them, but I'm surprised they are a thing.

FYI Heroes was Robert Fripp using actual feedback, not an ebow.
