I had the Luke set in my Ernie Ball Luke.
Yes for most rock styles but def NO for anything else.
You can't split the 85 so position 2 is terrible and there's not enough " smoke " in EMG singles to do a nice blues.
Got rid of the guitar after 3 months and bought a Silhouette Special that now has a JB and 2 x Kinman singles... that will cover any style :friday:

There's a fix for the #2 position but not compatible with the solderless kits - if you have a 4 pole switch its easy. Google "MK mod" EMG. Should work for Blackouts too/
It sounds very much like an 85. They even advertise it as such. And I agree about the R version, although I've only used the regular 89.No direct experience with the pickup, but I've been told the 89 and 85 do not sound similar when the 89 is in humbucker mode.
Featuring two pickups in one, the 89 is loaded with alnico V magnets and has separate preamps each providing custom outputs for both dual coil and single coil modes. In dual coil mode, the sound is rich, warm and powerful, but still very clear and is similar to the 85. The single coil mode, accessed via the included push pull pot, delivers the traditional Strat single coil sound: bright, airy, and chimey, and is similar to our SA.
I had an 89R in my Luke before i sold it.
Position 2 is important to me and it was still crap !
The other thing is that they don't auto split.. you have to use a push pull pot.
