Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

Theres a few guys over on Harmony central that have used some. They seem to pretty darn good for the price and he has made some great recordings from it. I havent heard a bad thing about them yet. I know some people have replaced the speaker due to preference.

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

That's what I planned on doing..I love firing up my amp at home and prefer it for recording and playing to my modeling gear and figured the iso would be a good investment....

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

I just got the Randall version and I love it - opted for it because it comes with a V30 and not the crap stock Eminence the Jet City uses, and it's got a slightly better track record from what I can tell. Also easier to mod for 2 mics, and I'm not into the door being on the side and not the top.

How much is the Randall version???

See if they're still running deals on Amazon - I got mine for $335 shipped by adding a $5 phone charger to the cart.

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

FYI, I have the Randall iso cab as well, and really like it. There are things you can do to get it so it will be even more quiet and cut down on the boom which can really annoy neighbours ... after all, 29dB of attenuation is not much when it comes to loud guitar!

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

Ben, what have you done to yours? I added the mandatory gooseneck for the mic, and am planning on adding a second mic jack + gooseneck setup, but have been thinking about filling the bottom of the cabinet with OC703 batting and maybe on the lid as well, instead of the eggcrate foam that comes stock. Have also considered putting some rubber weatherstripping to get more of a definite seal on the lid, but I'm not sure if that'll do a ton of good.

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

What I did is dead simple, removable, and effective. I would say it's knocked the leakage down by 50%. If I put the iso cab into another room or closet, you can barely hear it.

What I do is this --

1. Place the iso cab on an Auralex GAMMA. The GAMMA really does stop overhanging bass notes dead without affecting the tuning or internal volume of the cabinet at all.

2. I wrap four Audimutue soundproofing blankets (folded in half lengthwise) around the cabinet in alternating patterns. This gives most of the cabinet (except for the very bottom, which is needed to snake the mic cable out) an average of 6-8 layers of blankets on 5 of its six sides. The only downside is that you can't rest your head on top of the cabinet when you do this, as the top is a bit rounded and poofy. :)

3. I use several heavy, 24" bungee cords to secure the layers of blankets in place.

I would say this knocks the isolation from 29dB up to about 38-39dB. I run my amps to power valve distortion and it is truly muted when I apply the GAMMA/Audimute combo to the iso cab.

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

that's a great idea using the Gamma and packing blankets.

I think if I were to buy an ISO cab I'd choose the Jet City, speaker it comes loaded with doesn't really matter much to me I prefer Weber or higher end Emi speakers to any of the current production Celestions. So saving $70 is just $70 off a replacement speaker I'd be buying anyway.

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

While I have never been a fan of the V30, I must say that it is PERFECTLY voiced in the Randall cab for rock guitar. I've put a bunch of different drivers in that cab and always go back to the V30 ...

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

I'll have to try the packing blankets - I've already got the thing on cinderblocks and decoupling it from the floor has done wonders for the rumble. Thanks!

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

Do it! :)

I have used the iso cab on my last 2 albums due to my living/recording situation (NYC apartment). I have since purchased a few different speakers that I swap out depending on the amp I am using and sound I'm going for. I also lined the inside of the bottom chamber w Auralex 2" pyramid foam and it helped the cabinet resonance and even further leaking.

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

'Course you could go the other way and get a small watt tube amp and crank it through a single 12" cab. With a lower watt speaker, the sound can be fantastic for a practice space, still be able to keep up with drums and bass, and if you have a well insulated practice space, not get the neighbors pissed and the cops called.

Re: Anyone here have a Jet City Iso cab?

Yeah. I have a Class 5 and a Valve Junior. They don't sound anything like my big vintage heads.
