Anyone here play the new 5150 Iconic 80 Watter?

In the case of the 5150 III, that's a mistake IMO. The 100 is simply an inferior product (no depth knob, less useful presence knob sweep) for twice the price.

So are we talking options or power? The 50 watt EVH Stealth Is a great amp. I would take the 100 watt every time if all thing were equal aside from wattage.

The "loudness" of a 50 vs. 100 isn't a huge difference. I will almost always take the 100 over the 50if given a choice.

I remember from high school that mathematically it's only 10% louder. If you it double you have to increase the wattage 10 times to 500 watts as loudness is logarithmic, something like that.

Define "options". The presence sweep on the 50 watt models is different and far more usable; this is the single most important difference IMO, even over the depth knob. The 100 watt models, the presence comes on very slowly, too slowly, for a huge chunk of the range, and then goes from "really dull" to "oh damn that's bright" in an eyelash. The 50 watt models have it come on to a usable amount pretty quickly, which gives you more of the range of the knob for useful adjustment. But yes, it's the knobs that make the 50 watt the superior amp, not anything inherent in the power (fun fact: the 50W and 100W versions of the 5150 III use the same transformers).

Whatever the case is and i saw what James Browns had to say about the Iconic..I have the 80 watt head in Ivory and I love it..I aslo have the 15 watt Stealth LBX and the 50 watt Stealth head..Love both of them too.. The Iconic sounds great..it has maximum sustain even at the lowest volume possible..many options..I won't be selling mine thats for sure.

I don't know how different the 40wt combo is but my buddy grabbed it when it came out and it is pretty killer

I have a 5150III 50wt head and while it sounds different it does sound related for sure

Lol whomever said that it sounds like a DSL must be a couple sandwiches short of a picnic.
those 2 amps couldn't hardly be further apart.
