Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

Played a USA Fender Tele today that was upgraded with John Suhr pickups and i still havn`t recovered. I can`t even put into words the incredible tone i was hearing, unlike anything else i`ve ever heard. Played 3 other of the same Tele`s except with stock Fender pups through the same amp on the same settings (just switched guitars!) the stock Fender ones were good but the Suhr equipped one was just magical.

I have a Doug Alrich bucker in my Lester and its on of the most amazing rock pups Ive ever used.. Smoking.. It is very similar to my my homemade Duncan Custom 8s.

This was my first experience with Suhr pickups. In fact,i`ve never even seen a Suhr guitar in person! Going by how good his Tele pups are i`m sure those buckers sound amazing!

Re: Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

I have a DSH+ in the bridge of my ESP. I really like the pickup in that guitar.

Re: Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

I have an Aldrich set in one Les Paul and a DSH bridge in another Les Paul.

Also have a SSH in my old Kramer.

John's pickups are my fav by a wide margin

Re: Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

Yup. I have the Aldrich set in my #1 and an SSV neck in another guitar. Great pickups. The only pickup I didn't like by him that I've tried is the SSH. It was just kind of flat and personality-less in the guitar I tried it in. I'd love to try an SSV+ in one of my guitars some day if I can ever find a covered one used.

Suhr pickups rock! The tele set, the strat singles, the 'buckers are all top notch. This guy used to be a Master Builder at Fender, and wound singles for Jeff Beck's main guitar, and built amps for Clapton. He knows his business. ;o)

It really is a pretty amazing thing when you hear something that`s just far and away better then most others! I mean for me anyway i can tell/hear a difference between higher quality pups and just average ones but the margin of difference with the Suhr`s is just extraordinary.

Re: Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

I guess its one of those things where you probably know who John Suhr is but never see any of his products,it was for me. Do youself a favor,if you`re really into tone check out his pups if its at all possible because you could be missing out on something special,i know i was!

Re: Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

Just ordered a set of Suhr V60`s for my Fender Strat and i can`t wait to get em! I was thinking about going cheap but i just couldn`t do it,i know i wouldn`t have been satisfied. Suhr`s Tele pups were the best i`ve ever heard so i figured why mess around and just go for the gold!

Re: Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

I absolutely HATE my Suhr Aldrich Bridge pickup and I have no intentions to buy more pickups from him or his company (or any other product for that matter).

Duncan or Dimarzio FTW !

So how do you really feel about them? *lol* You`re probably the first person i`ve seen that reacted that way about Suhr. Maybe there was something wrong with the pup...highly doubtful but there is always a chance.

Re: Anyone like John Suhr pickups?

When I first wired the Suhr Aldrich, I was expecting a lot...:

A very high output FAT, really THICK sounding humbucker with lots of sweet warm pouring lower midrange and smooth treble response with tight bass, screaming harmonics and sustain for days.

Then I plugged in and what I got is....:

A single-coil sounding high-output humbucker (similar to the Steve Morse Dimarzio bridge pickup in that sense) with lots of higher midrange, absence of lower mids or any thickness, a terrible vocal AWW response, oddly chopped treble in a means to smooth the high-end, a clanky pick attack that compresses and sounds weird when I solo (which is 99.9% of the time).

For my needs as a shredder 99.9% lead player, the Suhr Aldrich is certainly not adequate, but I can see many rhythm players loving this pickup because of its tightness and seemless immunity to any amount of gain you throw at it. It's clearer than any EMG I've tried and it feels stiffer than anything else I've tried in my life, except possibly the Duncan Distortion, which is also very stiff to me.

Very werid EQ on this pickup, somewhat like the Duncan JB, with lots of high-mids but a gaping hole in the lower mids that sounds empty and hollow. Indeed, the Aldrich reminds me of a more powerful, much tighter and smoother Duncan JB, but it doesn't FEEL as good as the JB, its too stiff.
