anyone tried el34s in a tweaker?

Re: anyone tried el34s in a tweaker?

I've got EHX 6CA7 power tubes in my Tweaker, which are supposed to be sort of a sharper, tighter sounding EL34 with more lows.

The headroom did increase quite a bit actually, I'd say around 25-30%.
And it does sound a lot bigger, with more authority, much more aggressive in the highs. With the 6V6 it sounds much mellower.

If you want to make your Tweaker sound a bit more modern and heavier, I definitely suggest these tubes.

Yeah, cathode bias makes things a bit simpler, thankfully. If you have a Tweaker, you now know the specs of the tubes if you read my posts. Still some things that are not ideal for running different tube types, but if Egnater says do it, go for it and have fun. If you happen to email the tech that says not to, then don't. Any way you go, have fun and be careful with those amps. Lots of mean electrons in there that would love to find residence in your nervous system.

I've seen you mention this more than once...if this is really the case then why do you obsess over such small things when dialing in tones???

I still love good tone Bro! I just gotta turn it up alittle louder to hear it! :D I sure dont have an ear for tiny nuances like somelike Eric Johnson has, but who does??

Also, sorry this post turned into a slug fest. I appreciate the positive input from all.
TGWIF, yeah, id like to keep this one running.. haha Incidently, I have my splawn in the shop to hopefully get it back in the mix.

What:?: Did someone say something:?::scratchch

LesStrat, Did you notice the amp next to the Tweaker combo? (Enlarge the photo and take a close look at the name on the back)

It’s a Celtic Franklin 15, another great amp that we both own…
I used it to compare tone...

Do not use 6550 in the Tweaker 15...

Current draw for the heaters is way too high. 2.3+ amperage for each heater circuit!

But they did have fantastic headBoom!
