Re: Anyone tried the YJM Fury pickup yet?
Maybe Yngwie tried some Duncans and experienced an intense occurrence of what I call brand lust. Let's say there was nothing wrong with the DiMarzios per se; I have YJMs and an HS-3, and they're fine pickups. But maybe he got a taste of the Seymour Duncan magic and wanted to find out what they could do for his kind of pickup and his sound. Maybe he kind of fell in love with the company and decided he wanted his next pickups to be Duncans.
I've experienced this myself. I love Gibson's Burstbuckers, and I love Duncans. I wonder what Seymour's take on the Burstbucker would sound like. I'd spend a lot of money if the Custom Shop would make them. I love my Ibanez RG270DX, and I love USA Jacksons. I wonder what it would be like if Jackson reincarnated that guitar as a Custom Shop Jackson.
I wasn't banging on Duncan, unless Yngwie had some personal problem with Dimarzio there would be no reason to leave just to get a quality pickup made as they make Fantastic noiseless pickups already. Just because Yngwie was looking for the highest bidder doesn't make Duncan a bad guy, if he was having problems with Dimarzio and left for other reasons then that is a different story.
