Anything sound like a Les Paul but feel like a Fender?

I know, I know. Nothing sounds like a Les Paul but a Les Paul. But I'm a Strat & Tele guy at heart. That said, I know it's unlikely, but have any of you run into any 25 1/2" scale beauty that would make even Slash look twice?

It's been years since I've played a PRS. I'll have to try one out again

An all-mahogany, set neck Telecaster would make a good starting point.

I've never gotten along with an SG. I love them in theory, but something about how the neck meets the body just never felt quite right to me.

Ibanez with two humbuckers

No maybe a big apple strat

I feel the same way about SGs- something about the geometry just doesn't suit my hands or my body.

+1 on a PRS McCarty- the slight extra thickness of their body really does bring 'em a step closer to Les Paul territory. And they hang naturally on you like a Strat. To me, though, PRSs feel closer to Gibsons than they do to Fenders. It's the scale length (closer to Gibson) and the set necks.

In terms of 25½" bolt-on axes, pickups make a lot of difference. Someone recommended me a DiMarzio The Breed for bridge position on a tremolo Strelecaster that sounded a bit thin, and the Breed has made it pretty fat sounding. It definitely has as much girth as some of my Gibsons, though not their warmth. And it feels 100% Fender under the fingers.

I have other 25½" axes with bridge humbuckers: a PATB-3, a JB, a Pearly Gates Plus, a Fender Atomic, an 80s Schaller and a 70s Gibson T-Top. They each sound good in their own way. But I'd say that Strelecaster is closer to the tone of a Les Paul than the others.

Tele with buckers and a rosewood board.

Ive had a USA sc250, and it doesnt feel fendery at all. Its more gibson in feel due to the bridge, and body, and it stiffer to play than a gibson or a fender. And it sounds very much like a PRS. McCarty or DGT is a decent compromise between fender and gibson in feel and tone.

ASAT Deluxe Carved Top, with the right pickups.

I have a USA ASAT Deluxe, with the 59N and TB-4 and it gets close. But mine has the DF Vibrato and with the springs adding a bit of airiness, mine sounds closer to a 335 tone.

Just stick two fat humbuckers in your H/H Strat or H/H Tele...

I have a couple of USA Washburns from the Grover Jackson era in the early 90s that are superstrat shaped, but set neck and 24.75 scale. Model MG130 Stevie Salas signature models. On the body, they feel like a superstrat obviously, but have the slinkier string feel and alittle more bark like a LP..
LOVE em!! Just a thought. Not super easy to find, but they pop up from time to time.

This is in the Carvin in stock section right now.
Or you could build a TL60 more to your own liking with the options available.

....actually it probably sounds nothing like a les paul, but it is a super cool guitar nonetheless!

Telecaster FMT HH. http://shop.fender.com/en-US/electr...-custom-telecaster-fmt-hh/product-026200.html

My main gigging guitar is one of those. It has coil tapping, so it can get stratty or telecasterish, but it can also sound fairly convincingly like an LP. They can be had for ~$350-400 used fairly easily.

That was my first thought, as well as the blacktop series. A 24 3/4 conversion neck would help if you want the slinkier tension of the shorter scale.

I'd go with the FMT over the Blacktop if you are after LP tones. IIRC the Blacktop is Alder and the FMT is Mahogany. Of course, I might be biased...

Jackson PC1 sounds like a les Paul and a Strat. Great playing and feeling guitars too.
