Hi! I've lurked here for quite a while, but this is the first time posting.
Looked at a fair bit of posts here concerning my question, but I'd like to be a bit more specific on just these two pickups. My LP is a faded standard and being chambered is very resonant and acoustically lively. It originally had BB pros in which I found the bridge to be too harsh and was replaced with a Seth. However, I left the neck in there and I now find it pretty boomy, without clarity and pretty overpowering as compared to the bridge (which I really like).
It's time to replace the BB Pro neck, I'm down to the Seth or Aph-1 neck pickup. Either one will be open coils (zebra) but I'm having a hard time figuring out which to get. I play blues and classic rock (I know, a little too general a style description), both clean, with mild overdrive (sometime some fuzz on the neck). I'd like a smooth neck sound that has some clarity, without clanky highs when I play with a pick... one that sounds good playing blues or jazzy blues without having to drop the tone knob to 4. I don't like necks that sound too "edgy", I feel like that's a bridge thing for me. Clear and smooth all the way for the neck...
I'm so sensitive to piercing highs that I generally set my amp to make the bridge Seth sound great... I know it's the opposite of some rec's here, but it really works for me. So the neck pickup is at a disadvantage for clarity.
What's your feeling about these two pickups in the neck? Greatly appreciate your opinions here!!
