I have to draw the line just this side of caring where my $99 Celestions are made. I use only the most common models in their lineup anyway, because I'm not that picky about cabinets. The Celestions were in there when I bought them. When I had to replace a G12T-75 in my 1960A a couple of years ago, the new one fit in and sounded just like the older UK-built speakers.

+1. They have some of the newest, high-quality production equipment in the world. There's a lot of highly-educated and high-tech savvy people there. The factories fill the orders they're given; blame the US companies for spec-ing them like they do. After all, anyone importing millions of dollars of goods has their own quality control checking them when they arrive.

My cab has two celestions in it: a Blue made in the UK, for which I paid nearly $300 and a G12H30 made in China, for which I paid less than $100.
They both sound good, but if I absolutely had to pick only one of two models, based only on how they sound, I'd pick the G12H30.

The MIE vs MIC argument doesn't really apply here due to the cost and design differences in those 2 speakers.

What kind of large manufacturing experience do you have??
FWIW, I have tried several of the pre MIC Celestions and the MIC Celestion speakers and I doubt that anybody could tell the difference in a blind A/B test.
Also, FWIW...a very high end amp maker that uses Celestion speakers exclusively told me about a year after the move to China that he liked the MIC Celestions just as good as the MIE versions but, and I found this interesting...with the MIC stuff he had fewer issues in terms of cone cry and DOA speakers.
Just a bit of info I'm passing on...

I have direct exposure to some manufacturing in China. The problem is that there is an enormous quality drift even if you set everything up right the first time.
All these machines needs to be finely adjusted, kept up-to-date and get new parts. Just for starters in the guitar world think about new router bits. Even if you own the place it is very hard to get all this done. The adjustment isn't done until an explorer comes out half a firebird. The new expensive router bits you stock for them are sold elsewhere and your cavities get bigger and look like hell instead.
Then there is the materials. In China you will have to have eunuchs without their own free will but with AK-47s next to the manufacturing lines to prevent the good materials you deliver from being exchanged for cheaper ones, with the good stuff sold off.
Manufacturing lines are often used to make more items than they should with the additional ones being sold one the black market. Since you only delivered the good materials for X but they make X+N items that's not good for the average quality.
There is a reason why companies like ESP make the Edwards like in China but QA and end assembly is done in Japan.
Owning the factory is a marketing gag with very little practical meaning to it. We all have seen how Gibson got screwed with some of the Epiphones and according to them that is their own factory.

Sure, it does. I make no claims about the speakers being the same, just that the quality of the MIC is (at least) up to snuff with its English made cousin.
Besides, when did England become a hallmark of manufacturing quality? Have any of you ever driven a Triumph or MG? And for how far, before the electrics failed?

I had heard..now "heard " mind you, that even Celestion admitted that early on they had problems with their MIC speakers beyond what was acceptable to their standards and over and above what was being produced in Surrey .
Its been said all those problems have been ironed out and the Chinese Celestions are every bit as good as their British counterparts. Of course, it was Celsetion themselves who said that.
I just use British Celestions though. Thats neither here nor there, only a personal choice.
