Celestion has been manufacturing their speakers, including v30s, in china for several years now...

All current V30's (for the past several years now) are made in China but, and I hate to say it...the MIC Celestions are as good or better than the English made Celestions!

Good info. Thanks, dudes. :beerchug:

Re: Are All Celestion Vintage 30s Made In The UK?

I've owned both the UK version and the Chinese version Vintage 30 and while I discovered they are not the speaker for me, there was no difference in the sound. When people think of "Made in China" its usually a case of a company contracting a Chinese company to manufacture a product for them. Sub-contracting if you will. As I understand it, in Celestions case, THEY built a factory in China that is their factory and the employees are employed by Celestion. So, the final product is the same. Internet hype makes the older UK versions more valuable in the end than the Chinese verions......

I use Greenbacks, I have 4 English and 4 Chinese but you can't hear the difference!

I have an old Vintage 30 in my Deluxe Reverb & it is a British made V30. I have no comparison of the differences!

If you're looking for cheaper versions, I hear WGS makes a clone.

Re: Are All Celestion Vintage 30s Made In The UK?

I asked a Celestion rep if he thought there was any difference between UK and Chinese Celestions. He answered "a speaker is a relatively easy product to build, as there's only a few components like the basket, cone, voice coil, spider, and magnet." "It really doesn't matter where it's made."

I was thinking the same thing, then something occurred to me. Pickups aren't really a complex product either, but the offshore Duncan Design pickups sound vastly different than the US line they're trying to mimic. To be fair, I don't know if they're given the exact same formula for building as they use here in the states.

Regular V30s are made in China.

Mesa's OEM V30s are made in the UK. As are Marshall's to the best of my knowledge. Neither is tonally identical to the regular V30, but that is due to Mesa/Marshall's design specs more so than where it's manufactured.

Re: Are All Celestion Vintage 30s Made In The UK?

I don't really like Celestion V-30s.

Oddly, I do really like some of the various clones out there. Both the Eminence Red Coat Governer and the WGS Veteran 30 are great-sounding speakers, made in the USA, and are cheaper than the Chinese Celestion.

Go figure.

Thanks for all the info, guys. If you're wondering, I only asked because I'm sniffing around a possible deal on a new amp. I'm trying to bargain to get a cab with it and was just wondering what it would be worth. It's a cheaper cab and he said there were V30s in it, so I was wondering if they were the real deal or not. Seems they are.

Thanks again. :beerchug:

The WGS Vet 30 and it's NOT a clone of the Vin 30! I own both and for open back cabs in particular like the WGS a LOT better. Smoother in the mids and tighter and fatter in the bottom than the Vin 30. I have 2 one in my 1990 Marshall MK III JCM 900 Dual Master 1/12 and one in my Fender Prosonic 1/12 combo.

IMO the WGS is the GFS of the speaker world. Maybe decent, but not nearly as good as a Celestion. IMHO any good Celestion will trounce a WGS in every way, shape, form, function, and manner.

Do you ever do anything but talk out of your ass?

I mean, do you actually know anything??

How are WGS the GFS of anything when they're made in the US?

I hate to admit it, but I agree with Metal Maniac.

I don't consider WGS to be a high quality speaker..I've known people that use them and get great results with them.

For me its:
1. Celestion
2. Eminence
3. Everything else, which, IMO is substandard, minus a few exceptions. Doesn't mean that it is, I guess its brand loyalty. Same reason I by Seymour Duncan Pickups and not Duncan Designed.

Also, just because something is made in the US doesn't mean it is instantly good quality....just as something not made in the US doesn't mean that it is complete garbage.

Re: Are All Celestion Vintage 30s Made In The UK?

I like Eminence speakers better than celestions, I think their 'clones' usually are improvements on the originals and plus they're less expensive, BUT I do give celestion points for being the pioneers in the models.
