Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

LOL....

The one and only CM pedal I bought, IMO is the best marshall plexi simulation on the market and was as solid as a tank.

You should really ask "Rid"...he's our resident expert on Carl Martin stuff :bigthumb:

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

Something to do with all that true bypass crap.....GIMME A BREAK !!!!

:D

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

Yeah we make POS pedals én masse!!
Got nothing better to do;)
That is why Andy Timmons uses our no good comp, same with David Williams, he had a small gig once... and someone called Clapton uses one tremolo, alot of other unknow behind the scenes players uses our stuff, like one of them buggers from P McCartny band pr example...and so on...yeah overrated

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

Anything and everything can be overrated (or underrated)

Trying to put a price on tone is somewhat like trying to put a price on art, or anything subjective. Theres no common scale we can use because everyone is going to see/hear things differently. One man may judge with just his hears while another may judge more with his wallet. Sounds good or sounds good for the money ?

Are they "worth" the money ? Depends who you ask. Might as well ask if a BMW is worth the money. Or a $100 bottle of red wine. Or some $3000 paint splatter called modern art. Or a 68 Plexi. Or a _________.

You get the idea that there is no one correct answer.

Some people no doubt bought a CM effect and it didn't impress for the price they paid. Maybe however they would like it if it cost half as much. Maybe they wouldn't like it even if it was $5 though. Someone else may love it for $50 but not $200.

Really just comes down to if YOU like it or not. Who cares if everyone else in the room thinks its a waste of money, its YOUR tone so it only matters if your happy with your purchase.

I can look at a guy driving a BMW home from some fancy art show where he paid $5000 for a painting that looks like a 2 year old did it and think to myself what a waste of money. My Nissan gets me around just as well and my $25 picture from Target looks just as nice on my wall, but who cares. If that guy likes his car and really enjoys his "art", more power to him.

Same thing applies to guitars, effects, amps, and music.

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

Anyways, either it works for you, or it does not!
Simple way...not much is really bad these days.....well they would not sell much if it was!
Just look at Boss....they are the internetmadmens fave trashobject...they have sold more pedals than most other ever will do in 30 years!

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

Additionally you've got to look as specific pedals and not try to make blanet statements about a given brand.

Take Boss, they make some very good pedals that are a standard in most everyones boards regardless of the fact some guys could buy something that cost 5x more money, and yet they also make some less than inspiring pedals.

Point is, you can't go and say that a brand is overrated as a whole because CM, like anyone else has a range of product and some are better than others for different users needs

I use and love the CM Plexitone and I never felt like the pedal was over-rated.It surely suits a specific tonal need for myself and my band!

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

Great post, Millsart! I couldn't say it any better, so I'll leave it at that! :)

(I AM one of those guys that pays a lot for some of my pedals, and enjoy them very much)

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

I've bought two and love them both. Theres a couple more I really want to try, namely the AC-tone and Quattro. But overrated? By who , I dont think they get enough hype :)

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

I've got the Plexitone as well and it is da BOMB! Here is the thing, and I wonder if anyone else feels this way--or am I just tone deaf, lol. BY ITSELF, it doesn't really sound exactly like a vintage Marshall. Has some kind of mid-range rumble or something. However, when I record with it or play live with the band, it just NAILS the Marshall tone. I mean, nails it, nails it, nails it. I'll never forget when I got it, I wanted to get rid of it. Used it to record and nearly pooped myself. Played with it in the band and my LP, Plexitone and bassman 2X12 combo sounded like a record playing Priest, Maiden, Scorpions etc... Seriously, my real Marshalls are way too loud for band practice but the Plexitone through the Bassman or any other Marshall voiced amp gives me my Marshall back at reasonable volumes for that band and for recording.

I've heard the DeLayla too and it may be the best delay I've ever heard. IMO, not overrated at all.

Re: Are Carl Martin Effects Overrated?

got links to the bad reviews?

oh boy, and jeremy's got to weigh in on the action. yeah, they are posted on the internet, but i don't have time to go looking around for a second time. i was simply inquiring to learn more.

in fact, i've heard a lot on this thread, but no one has offered a real education on carl martin pedals. some of the philosophical crap about being overrated is a state of mind just doesn't cut it for me. there are brands that more often than not produce good stuff. like boss compared to digitech, for instance.

i'd like to learn more about carl martin pedals, particularly their high gain and overdrives.
