Are Electric Guitars Dying A Slow Death?

Re: Are Electric Guitars Dying A Slow Death?

Yeah, it's a terrible song, but it has a message: Rock n' roll is something to be happy about. An electric guitar is something to be happy about. Chuck Berry came to this planet for a reason.

Re: Are Electric Guitars Dying A Slow Death?

Seriously, though, finding pop music with hot guitar work in it in the 70s and 80s is very easy. 90s until now? My guess is that it would show a steady decline in use over time.

Re: Are Electric Guitars Dying A Slow Death?

Yes, and I wish it could speed up a bit.

Time for something new and substantial (as in having some worthwhile substance, relevance and meaning). 60 years of rock'n'roll, 30 years of metal ... tooo long for the stylings of rebellion. It's just boring now.

Time now for angsty youth to embrace the piano accordian or possibly even the sackbut.

Re: Are Electric Guitars Dying A Slow Death?

These days, "pop music" is an oxymoron.

Fashion is always changing and the older styles come back around, So will the Electric Guitar.

Ain't that the truth.

We have a slew of Guitar Hero/Rock Band games at home (my wife plays too), but I just cannot play it.

For example, Ted Nugent "Stranglehold" starts, and I find myself trying to do the real riff on the controller... then I remember
to push the correct buttons.

...and I'm always using the wiggle stick. Always.

That game teaches guitarists bad habits.

Well, there are probably less clarinet players than, say 90 years ago. Popular music has changed. I think you are right about country, though, as much as I can't stand it (unless you are talking about Chet Atkins/Albert Lee/Dixie Dregs country). It is the only popular music that still has guitar. It also attracts women, too.

Yes on Country using guitar. I like the New Hillbilly Rock style Country. Like to see Brad Paisley and Keith Urban cranking on those Strats.
