Are schecter guitars any good?

I sat this on musiciansfriend and flipped out.

I've never played one of em though, and was wondering if anyone here has played schecter guitars.

what can you tell me about the quality? feel, finish, whatever.

UH yes, shecters are fantastic instruments, and one of the best value brands for the more rock/metal oriented market today.

The only reason i don't play them is because I'm anal retentive apparently, and I have issues with their volume knob placement and the size of frets they use.

everything else (woods, pickups, hardware, electronics, construction, finish, design) is perfect

I learned to play on a fender 62 reissue strat, so I much prefer smaller (ie medium/6230) frets. Schecters use primarily 6150 Jumbo frets (their fretwork is great mind you)

The volume knob thing is even more anal retentive. It's the same reason I don't play jacksons, and the reason why I moved the volume knob on my strat to the 1st tone position. My pinky bashes into the volume knob when I'm playing, causing unwanted volume fluctuations

Compare and contrast this Schecter guitar with the Cort KX Custom and the LTD whatchamacallit.

Actually, you're right. The Schecter wins.

I'm guessing Vol/Vol/Tone controls. If you don't like this combination or the knob positioning, change it. For guitarists seeking the fake F hole look, why not have a big "Active Bolt" decal where an F hole ought to be?

I learned to play on a Japanese Telecaster copy. If my fingertips stepped out of line, they cracked into the steel lip of the "ashtray" bridge. I very quickly learned to control my finger movements.

I've ended up liking just about all the Schecters I've played. I'm not crazy about the shape of their seven-string necks, but they're very solid guitars. If I were starting from scratch, I'd get one or two in my arsenal.

Schectar's are great!!! Love mine. The only thing I've had to do is replace the tone pot and cap. She came with Duncans....a JB and '59, but I moved the JB to the neck and installed a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge.....

It's half the weight of the LP, so it's my "downstairs guitar" that I have hanging from my neck as we speak. The neck access is really nice, but I usually don't up that high on the neck, and I'm a fan of jumbo frets.

The 5-way switch is a lot of fun to play with......but I find myself in the #4 position a lot....clean and distorted.

I have a C-1 Blackjack myself (non-ATX). It came with a '59n/JB combo. The only real change I've made is a magnet swap to a JB8. Otherwise its a fantastic backup.

The neck is a little thinner than my American Strat, and she's got medium jumbo frets (leveled once and measure 0.047" tall x 0.110" wide). The Grover tuners are sweet as well as the Graphtech nut.

Schecter's are great for the price.

I have a shecter Bass and it's plays and sounds great! It's from there Diamond series "Robert DeLeo", it looks like a 51 P bass.

I have yet to hear a single bad opinion from a schecter owner. Astrozombie, if that's any indication, I think you should grab that C-1 soon as you can

I have 2 C1s and like them a lot. The only gripe I have is that my C1 plus I tend to hit the pick up switch while playing and the High E gets caught under a fret at least once a practice.

If it were me, I'd check eBay and craigslist for "Schecter C-1" first. You could score a good one for $300-$400(w case)

I think they're great guitars, especially for their price. I don't have anything bad at all to say about the three I own.

I played that exact one at GC the other day for about an hour, I was happily impressed with it. Sounded great, felt comfortable . . . I played it thru a Line 6 amp the one with the built in loop/trainer

Yep. This things got the features of a 1,500 ibby for around 850 dollars ( eithd case).

I love the IDEa of blackouts.

+1 on all the positives ......I've owned three Tempests(still have one) and the quality/playability is awesome, every time I let someone try it, they'd say "wow!".

I like the tempests as they are primarily an LP setup with tappable Duncans or duncan designed for added versatility...their pretty easy to score for under $500-used

Their tele designs are pretty sweet as well....heck, whatever your normal preference is they probably have something you'll dig....You should at least play a few...

First of all, you will find fans of any brand who will say "these are the best guitars". However, I have never played a Schecter, but they are the highest opinionated iimport line I have heard of, across many boards. I'd go for one man.
