Are there any 15-40 watt tube combos that are good right out of the box?

Re: Are there any 15-40 watt tube combos that are good right out of the box?

The problem I hear with the Mesa F30 is the Vintage 30. I played a combo the other day. Just something not right about. Added the C90 smallbox extension cab an all was right with the world. I also loved the F30 head with the widebody C90 equipped speaker cab.

All this tells me the Vintage 30 is the problemo. Si o no???? SI!!!

Looked at the Hughes & Kettner "Edition Tube 20th anniversary"? Super clean channel & Filthy dirty channel ---- SHOCKINGLY LOUD

I was wondering about this amp. People keep telling me to check out the Traynor YVC-40, but can it handle "heavier" higher gain sounding stuff like Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Marilyn Manson, and Boogie-esqe tones like Default and Fuel? I'm thinking of waiting for the Traynor 50Blue to come out (whenever the hell that's going to be) but if the YVC-40 will do the job I'll pick that up. Let me know the score is! I currently own a Marshall MG250DFX and it can handle the heavier stuff fine, but sometimes it can't handle the lighter stuff, so I'm in a bit of a quandry.

Great thread, by the way!

Honestly, the Traynor isn't really meant for the high-gain type tones like Tool or the other bands you described, it tends to be more like a combination of a Fender Deluxe AND one of the old Marshall Plexis (to my ears anyway), although it does have a great thick overdrive like the old Marshalls.

Yeah, you got that right! What about a DSL401 combo? Also, I forgot to mention I already have an Eminence V12 in a box waiting to be used.

I like the Crate V series. I've had a V15 and a V50 and they were both great. Not a clean, Fenerish tone. Think more Marshall.

Laney's LC15R, Fender's Hot Rod series, the Gibson Goldtone's were pretty sweet.
