Are two greenbacks OK to handle a 50 watt amp?

I like the tones from my current setup (a C. Rex in an open back combo mixed with a V30 in a closed back cab). I was looking at picking up a closed back 2x12 loaded with greenbacks in our local music store for some different tones while recording, but the guy in the store seemed convinced that it would be risky to put 50 watts into two 25 watt greenbacks. Is he crazy, or am I? I thought a 50 watt cab would be fine with a 50 watt amp.

It is right at the limit of the speakers

If you crank the amp wide open and have a squall of feedback that last more than a few seconds

It may damage it

But that would be really loud

My Origin 50H seems to like the Greenback-loaded 2x12 it runs through very well, but I don’t think I’ve ever gone over halfway on the master volume.

Many old Marshall 4x12 cabinets had 25 or 35-watt speakers for 50 or 100-watt heads. It depends on how much speaker breakup you like?

on the edge but they can handle well 50W RMS, at max you have to expect a lot of distortion from the cones theirselves

as long as you arent running the amp full up or close, you should be fine. wattage rating is just heat dissipation

If you are using an overdrive or boost, you will be increasing the output of the amp, and it could get dangerous. I live by the 50% rule, 100w amp at least a 150w cab. Not only in fear of blowing a speaker but also for the headroom.

I think I'd be recording with it at relatively reasonable levels so should be safe then. If I was using the greenback loaded cab when playing out, I'd run it along with the speaker in my combo . . . so 50 watt cab, 50 watt combo speaker should leave plenty of leeway (although it's pretty darned rare that I've ever got that amp fully up anyway . . . at those levels it's deafening and will ruffle the cuffs of your pants around your ankles).
