Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

Nothing beats play to a live crowd, A few drinks in you and the Mojo vibe
starts happening. You just fire away :firing:
In the studio it's hard to loosen up,And I tend to think to much
Gotta feel it !!!

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I can handle people easier than I can handle the pressure of that damn little red recording light.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

Playing live is the stuff that gets your blood flowing. A great gig and great audience can get you high on life for a few days or weeks.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I really try to do well at both. In the studio you gotta do it right, I am a very off the cuff player, but I really want to do it while having full awareness of what I need to do to execute in the big picture.

Live is great and very different. I hate making mistakes ( different than taking chances, which I always do) I want to be on top of my playing as well as really hone in on what the rest of the players are doing. Being my own planet performing live does not work, there is a communication with the other players that has to be there to make it jive. I pay as much attention to the other players as I do myself.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I find I'm more on the ball and in the zone when playing live in a band situation

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I agree with Mike..for some reason when i'm recording something and I know the track is armed, I can't play for squat (my messy solos are a testament to that...you've all heard em!)...

but I don't play out for real..but I'm better just noodling around in my room

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I'm very comfortable in the studio and on the stage. I like some of the advantages of recording: being able to multitrack, as well as punch in and edit, but there is no mic made that can take the sound from an entire room, like when your tone is ruling and your amp is cranking!!

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I like live the best, the most fun is to really play with others, there I simply stop thinking about gear, sound, strings, all the usual bothersome things and just concentrate hard on music.
So I guess from that perspective I'm probally more guitarminded on records and more musicorientated on livegigs.
But for both goes one thing...nothing but unedited stuff...I never fix mistakes.
Well if it is my own stuff, if I record for others I play the best I can come up with.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

This is a difficult one to answer....whilst in the past I felt that I did things live better, it was interesting to listen to the recorded (live) results. :D

On the other hand, over the past couple of years I have made improvements of "getting into the groove" even infront of a LED meter at home.....

can't really decide on this one....

One thing is for sure:

- when I am recording and I play a bad note - I can rerecord it
- when I am playing live and I play a bad note - I repeat it, so it sounds like I did it on purpose. :D

i prefer playing live but recorded my solo's seem better

i don't really ever clam up anymore when i start to record i feel comfortable now

what i really want is to be able to jump about on stage like a loon and stil be able to play well :)

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

Live Zerb makes recorded Zerb sound (and look) like a cheap party trick :saeek: :D

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I'm about to find out in a week! Let's see if recording in a studio is as stressful as people claim it to be. I voted for live because the best parts are always played when not recording...

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I have only played live once and that was all by myself in front of 1500 people playin eruption for a talent show. I seriously was scared out of my mind, it was hard to keep my mind off of the crowd. I felt that I was being watched by 1500 musicians watching my every move. I finished good and people loved it, but I knew that I could have done it 10x better then I did. It was a good experience to get my feet wet in live situations. Next time I play live I just gotta forget about the crowd and just rock out. Never had studio time but if you consider using your pc to record... I find that a bit easier lol. I just need to play live more.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

Great responses, guys! :)

I tend to clam up when it's just me, by myself, playing for others. If I'm playing with at least one other person, though, I don't get scared. Funky

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I like my live playing better, mainly because it's just more fun. The stuff I do is pretty much in the power/speed metal genre so it's really fun to tear the stage up.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

Recording - pretty much everything is perfect...why isn't this fun?

Live - energy and crowds pump me up leading to some really good fun - and the whole presence issue is more than enough to make up for a missed note.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

Recording is so stressful to me. I'm very picky when it comes to that. Playing live is just so much better.....especially when you have a big crowd that is getting into it. I'm more relaxed and less tense playing live. Which then i can play tons better.

Re: Are you better recorded or live/in-person?

I prefer playing live, you get the instant feedback but I have alot of fun recording. Both take some experience to do well.

... And many are great at one but not worth $0.02 in the other situation, as well ;)
