I installed one in a project today. The bridge is a Lil 59. The first difference, the case of the generic pickup is too large for a single coil route. It originally had a generic single coil without a case, which rattled in the route of the pickguard because it was smaller; the cover added space. The Lil 59 doesn't have a cover, but is the same size as a single with one, the name and color of the pickup printed on a piece of plastic. I used a dremel to cut the cover of the generic to be a cover like Duncans. I glued it on.
The Lil 59 was a neck pickup in the bridge. The generic doesn't specify position, and it was in the neck. Even my girlfriend noticed how drastic the difference is. The Lil 59 is bright, loud, and heavy. The neck pickup has no high end and sounds like it is covered in fabric and much quieter, maybe half the volume or less.
