Asian imported guitars

Re: Asian imported guitars

If the price is right, all I care is that the neck stays straight, the frets and fretboard are level and the body wood isn't so soft as to let decent screws strip out.
I can, and probably will eventually replace everything else.

Re: Asian imported guitars

My main advice is if you're going to go cheap don't get a tremolo. I had a Korean shecterino fr and despite it being well made the fr sucked hard. Same applies for anything cheap with a vintage 6 screw.

Which is why almost all my guitars are string-thru or TOM. :)

Cheap tremolos suck, 99,999% of the time. The only budget conscious trem unit I've tried that wasn't a turd is a Wilkinson VS something in a Cort Strat I tried once in a shop. Non-locking two-point unit in a budget guitar that was very smooth to operate and surprisingly stable, without a setup and stock strings.

Other than that, budget trems are almost always a waste of money IMO. Cheap 6 point trems in Squiers, I don't even try to set them up. 5 springs and I'm done with it.

Re: Asian imported guitars

A good guitar is a good guitar. I was given a Chinese Washburn e/acoustic recently. It's surprisingly good. I checked the retail value and it was worth around $130 NEW. It sounds even better plugged in. :wow:

I would gladly relieve myself on any Asian guitar.
This is not a secks forum.

Re: Asian imported guitars

Not to beat it to death, but it really comes down to 5 things if buying new in 2018:
1 If it's a high production guitar AND made overseas it's not good quality most of the time.
2 Domestic made guitars if cnc'd and mass produced despite occasionally having better quality parts compared to their intl mass produced cousins are still very unpredictable and require full inspections before bartering a better price to justify the purchase.
3 If it is made by a big name company in the USA and costs 10x as much as anything else , it is good quality and reliable, but the price of that assurance far outweighs the value of the actual guitar.
4 Small shop custom order guitars from well known and limited output 1 at a time build luthiers , without question are hands down the best guitars in the world, wherever they are made.
5 if you have the time and tools, build it yourself slowly... the cost will be less than a 1/2 of a high end custom and 1/8 of a big name USA model even if you outsource the paint job and use high end hardware and pups.
remember it's just wood and wire

Regardless of country of origin you can get good stuff it’s just that China is usually used for cheaper labour so big brands produce low quality guitars but that’s not to say you can get high quality stuff from China but it’s less common than USA, UK or Japanese guitars because the initial setup costs are higher so you have to be able to produce a high quality instrument to justify a cost to the consumer.
I’ve personally ordered a custom shop instrument from Daemoness Guitars based in the UK which are regardless as some as the best boutique guitars on the planet.
It’s all about economies of scale and return rates.
If a place is expensive to build in then you have to try and justify it, some companies don’t and they either suffer from financial issues or consumer backlash.
Korea for me is great for the balance for price, quality and consistency unlike what it was viewed as 15-20 years ago.
Soon Korea will likely be viewed as a super high end region to manufacture guitars similar as what happened with japan and Indonesia and China will become the standard once a cheaper place is found.

I just looked up the Daemoness guitar you mentioned.
I had no idea they existed...never heard of them.
But WOW....absolutely gorgeous instruments.
Website is down right now though.
I’m loving his clone of the Dinky.

I’m looking at a clone of a Jackson Juggernaut but with a traditional soloist headstock basically my dream Jackson but with Daemoness touches
It’s a fan fret 6 string though

Re: Asian imported guitars

The Korean LTD range is a great example of how good asian stuff can be, I have a pair of ec1000s and they play and sound as good as any of the 5 les pauls I owned in the past.
The only prestige in certain american guitars is the name on the headstock.

Au contraire

The Korean LTDs are the world's premier showcase of how "other Asian" guitars are still noticably lacking vs. brands' home-country assembly line & handbuilt originals (ESP Japan)
