Plus a box

What would yall do?

I say:
If you have the desire, the skill and the time. Always do it yourself.
Sometimes sitting in a lawn chair, drinking a beer and watching or waiting is good too.

This is something I would buy.

Id pass on both ideas and get an old THD hotplate or Scholz power soak.
I have both and they work great and are well made so you won't smoke your amp.
Bugera stuff is not well made.
But if your amp is not important be my guest.
You get what you pay for. People are always going to be tempted to buy cheap stuff.

Try something with a volume control or EQ sliders through the effects loop first. If it's a serial loop, it works as a master volume multiplier.

Made one of those years ago

It's that housing I was going to repurpose

Just replace the guitar pot with the Lpad

well I just ordered the Bugera PS1

it was $77 with free shipping
then they charged shipping $27
then the bill on my CC was $108

hmmm
I sent them an email

something got screwed up

I just got so used to my amp settings with the 3db treble boost it was a bit of a shock without it!

Yeah yeah. The MASS is a well known device for real owners. I get everything I want out of it, certainly all the tone I need with or without I can achieve with it.

I really wonder how the "attuentator" - or what it is? that makes the 20watt/2watt switch on my Blackstar Ht-20 really works. :o

I leave it at 2 watts for home use; because it lets the power tubes move more into the "register" where they start adding harmonic content.

A really nice feature, I think... :)

If I were you I'd save my money and spring for something better. The PS1 is tha same model as the Harley Benton Power soak but with a different exterior design. And it's pretty much rubbish. Yes, it'll attenuate but it'll also suck out all the high end of your amp. Even after compensating with the EQ it's going to sound muffled. I tried with both a big 100 w head and a small 15 w lunchbox and the result was the same.

I'd love to get some good information about this- awsell.- My next amp is gonna be 50/100watts- and then I need an attentitatior to reduce the overall volume, for home/practice use :).

How did you determine the values for the components, being on the power output stage?

This is a naive question, but...
An LPad isn't a reactive load. Could a cone-less speaker driver (a la Weber MASS) or some kind of transducer/motor/servo/something be added to make it reactive?

(I haven't looked at the internals of my Weber MASS to see what it's design is, just curious if a cheap/easy alternative could be made that is still reactive.)

It's not a load box
it's an attenuation device

The amps speakers will still be connected

The Lpad comes in the 8 ohm variety
I could add an 8 ohm 100 watt resistor to make it 16 ohm

But I'll just connect it to the speaker cabinet that already exists

All I want is my Carvin Belair to be useable at a lower volume

I think if it gets muddy or something
I can always ad a cap across the pad to fix that
