Avatar JTM45??

Re: Avatar JTM45??

I have not played the Avatar but I have a ptp JTM45. Mine does not have a master volume. These type of amps can vary greatly in tone depending on the tubes used, the speakers used, and the rectifier tube. With a strong rectifier tube and KT-66s these type of amp will sound Fenderish clean almost all the way up. It never gets really dirty but has an addictive clean, but vocal, sustain. With a more saggy rectifier tube and KT-66s they will get that crunchy early Clapton/Cream tone- turned up. The lower midrange is more of growl, and you need to use the bass knob carefully. No more than 2. With EL34s the amp is smoother, darker, and the clean sustain thing, more liquid.

For Allman Bros. like blues/rock they are great cranked up, especially with EL34s. As can be heard in the vid, Vintage 30s gives some of that Dickey Betts bell like chime to the note attack.
