B-52 amps anyone?

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

eh, they are ok. the ss ones are nothing to write home about, the top end tube ones arent bad for the money. they have lots of options and work pretty well, decent cleans, plenty of gain. the fx loop sucks a little tone when active

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

I played the 200 watt head through the matching cab at GC with a RG200 right next to it...the Randall destroyed it, the B-52 was just a scooped sounding pile, cheap new but a used randall is probably less and will be better.

Never tried a tube one...I might try to bum a deal on the 2x12 combo though.

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

I wasn't a fan of mine. I had the AT-100 for a few months and sold it. I didn't change the tubes, so keep that in mind, but the amp lacked character. The cleans were surprisingly good and there was plenty of gain on tap, but I never could find a tone that I was completely happy with. It could also be the fact that I'm a fan of Marshall voiced amps.

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

I tried one of their 100W tube heads and it wasn't a bad amp, but yeah, a little scooped in the mids and basically had the Mesa wannabe thing going on like many of today's gain heads.

But like LeVar says, don't take my word for it!

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

We carry the at100's and st100s at G.C. and the while the former is complete rubbish the latter isn't bad at all for the money. Worth getting if you want hi-gain on a budget, and want something brand new instead of off ebay. Only thing that would concern me is reliability.

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

the AT-100 is one of the best metal heads in it's price range and plenty is loud.

Hey, if you can't be a fan of yourself, who will be? Glad you grew out of that phase. But seriously folks...

Guess I'll stick with Fender Hotrods then.

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

I played the AT-100 combo extensively. It does have some super sexy cleans and some pretty mean sounding distortion tones, but it falls apart when playing it back to back with a good Boogie 9distortion-wise that is). Perhaps with some good tubes and a different speaker choice it would do better.

Re: B-52 amps anyone?

I played an AT-100. It was O.K., not great, but I heard alot of reliability problems. I hear they come with cheap tubes and could use a total tube and speaker replacement, which would be quite costly considering how many tubes this amp has. At that price you're getting close to the price of a Carvin V-3.

In Guitar Center, if you wanted scooped metal it did sound better than anything there except a Marshall and Boogie. But it had a flat generic tone.
