I remember reading that van halen recordedthat stuff just for the film. I could be wrong, though.

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

Forget the humbuckers, they didn't introduce 335s until 1958! I guess they figured only guitarists would notice, and who cares what they think?.

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

Finally we have proof!

Marty didn't really go back to the future, they faked it in Hollywood. Just like the moon landing!

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

If you watch the movie closely, you'll see J. Edgar Hoover peering from behind something in several shots.

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

That's kind of like a guitarist's rite of passage, realizing the non-vintage correct portions of BTTF... Everyone's eventually realized it if they are a big enough guitar nut. ;)

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

And red wasnt introduced until the 60s besides on a couple custom order models in 1959

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

Ya know, you guys are trying to catch all the details about the humbucking pickups, the reverb on a vintage Fender tweed amp, the red colour of the guitar...all those things are correct but how about the fact that Marty's not playing an ES-335...it's an ES-345!

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

How the guitar ended up in 1955 is actually the backstory for part 4. "Back to the Future 4 - Return of the luthiers".

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

Was it a 345? It's been a while; I thought I remembered a dot neck. Didn't 345s come out a year or two after 335s and 355s? If so, they were really off!

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

Movies like that usually have a guitar nut helping with the gear decisions, and I think they kept it period correct. I forgot about the reverb tank crash tho.... special FX dept messup.

Most guitar players playing a HS dance wouldn't have had what Chuck Berry had tho.

Re: Back to the Future 1955 pickup

In the 2nd installment, McFly's got a blue PRS. Looked like an early edition too. Whoever chose the gear might not know much about the history of it, but they sure have good taste.
