Bad Cat Couger combo....GrrrrrrrrOOOOOw

Re: Bad Cat Couger combo....GrrrrrrrrOOOOOw

I read your review. Seems Tto me you are forgetting about the marginal Chinese build quality in all your glowing praise. I ain't disputing the sound, but Never forget its a cheap chinese built amp, that is disposable. How long will it last? Hopefully forever. Once you guys start totally disregarding build quality for price, I am jumping ship.
See... Here's the thing about stuff made in China.

If a company tells the Chinese factory to make something out of good materials that's bulletproof they will.

If a company tells the Chinese factory to make something out of whatever they find for as little as possible they will.

I think there's a good range of both, such as (on the good side) the MIC EVH Wolfgang Specials that were out a few years ago after the MIJ factory closed and the Squier Classic Vibe series. On the bad side is a lot of Beringher stuff, execpt for, oddly, their Bugera line. I've been smashing a Bugera 1960 Infinium at full tilt into a Jet City Jettenuator (also MIC) for a while and neither of them do anything but ask for more abuse.

ive used mine a far amount and its held up well. ive been babying it a little more than i would my older handwired amps but im sure thatll only last so long. its got foot prints and pint glass rings on the top already so it wont be long.

Re: Bad Cat Couger combo....GrrrrrrrrOOOOOw

One thing I'm finding with this amp is how it's tailor made for classic and modern metal. Nobody into metal gave any thought to this Bad Cat, but it's designed by the guy who gave us all the Peavey rock and metal amps.

I sorta play all styles, so I like having different amps to suit different things. This amp is a rock and metal power house.
Anyone who's wanting something like a Bogner or Friedman, but can't even consider that kinda money, needs to jump on this right away. I've got a Bogner XTC, Orange, several Marshalls, and Egnater Vengeance for high gain tones, and this one isn't almost as good...it's right up there with the Bogner. If all I got for $429 was the gain channel, it'd be a deal.
But the clean channel on this thing is better than most channel switching amps by far.

Re: Bad Cat Couger combo....GrrrrrrrrOOOOOw

I've got a Jet City Picovalve and an early 00's Behringer combo amp. Both seem to have been fairly well put together. Though I agree, it depends upon the item when dealing with Chinese stuff.

Re: Bad Cat Couger combo....GrrrrrrrrOOOOOw

if these are still around for $429 go get one. i keep using it and keep lovin it. the clean is great and the dirty is so flexible you can get almost anything you want out of it.

Re: Bad Cat Couger combo....GrrrrrrrrOOOOOw

I just noticed that the 50W combos and heads are all sold out. I'll be watching to see if they slash the price on the Cougar 15 combo. For some reason, those never went on sale.

I abscribe to Garjonesre Bible of gear ,I Really do 99% of the time.. but In will say one thing..if the dude spends money on something, suddenly its the holy grail of gear.
I recall he bought a totally cheap chinese copy of a Martin D28/35 and even though he has a real 3 grand Martin, all of sudden this 3rd rate Chinese Martin knockoff crap was every bit as good as has Martin?? Like tghe guy can't really tell the difference between a 3 grand Martin and a 200 dolallr chionese knockoff?? Or a grail Bogner and a 400 dollar Chinese knock off amp?You dissapoint brother..

Just a quick update to this thread. I remember this feeding frenzy when the amp went on sale so cheap. I just want to say that the combo is STILL my main gigging amp, and has handled all the rigors of being lugged around, lots of rehearsals, and is still in great shape. Still got the head too. I tried to sell it for $550 recently and nobody bit so screw it, I'm keeping it. I don't care, it sounds incredible. The reverb on the head comes and goes as it pleases, lol. Heard that was a bit of a problem with these amps, but all in all, will never regret the money spent for the combo and the head. Just amazing, amazing amplifiers.

i still have mine too but havent been gigging it all that much, but only because i always fall back to my old '66 dr. still works and sounds great with zero issues

Funny this thread popping up. I'm trying to sell mine. It's a great amp but I just don't really need it. My block is having a yard sale tomorrow so I'm trying to blow out a whole bunch of gear and other house related items. Bad Cat, old carvin 4x12, various pedals...even my trusty A&H GL2400 mixer. Everything priced to MOVE.
