BALLAD NO. 1 Jam

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
Yes, it's the return of the BOSS DR-3 drum machine! :D
Tonight's clip is from the preset called, you guessed it, BALLAD 1, hence the name. It reminded me a lot of Blizzard-era Ozzy, "Goodbye To Romance" in particular, so I may have subconsciously "borrowed" some phrases from that song. :)

Equipment is the usual suspects: Wayne Rock Legend + Korg PXR4. Strings are dying on the Wayne, which is why I have it home, but I figured I could squeeze one more jam out of it!

There are some nice melodic moments, even tho the track is pure chedar!

So, get out your lighters and enjoy my take on the power ballad!

I really liked that clip!

it some how reminded me of Tuesday's gone and Good bye to Romance.
which is cool.

Re: BALLAD NO. 1 Jam

Very "Goodbye" inspired! If I had a lighter, it would be sky-high right now!! You can't deny the all-mighty 80's power ballad... it's a staple!

You're getting great 80's tone from your setup. The rhythm guitars sound pretty big, and you're right.. the lead sound is butter.

Might have to break out the Boss Jam Station. It's got 80's power pop on it as well.

Soon, we'll have enough TO jams to fill out a "mix tape." We're just missing the obligatory "unplugged" and "free form jazz odyssey" jams. <<If I've told them once, I've told them a hundred times... Spinal Tap BEFORE Puppet Show.>>

Well done!!

Aw that was some sweet tones man!!
It is rewarding to hear something so structured, I am from the opposite school, improvisation en masse.
But that is what makes this place a good one, very different players.

Thanx, Wix! :) I think it's the descending major scale on the bass that gives it that feel more than anything ...

I really hate power ballads! lol But, this one just begged for some Randy style soloing!

I think that the 80's tone thing is only 50% gear, to tell you the truth. I use a modelling amp with no alteration it for these jams. I think the other 50% comes from eating and breathing this kind of music for most of my life ...

When I have 20 clips I'm gonna put together a CD called "Jams for Duncan" :D
Thanx, Matt!

Thanx, Rid! I know you can wail, so I will take that as a compliment! Actually, I only did two passes at the song, and once I had a basic idea, I just rolled with it. The chorus high bits were done after I had the basic structure down, and the solo was my 3rd or 4th take, I think. I had the thing written, tracked, and mixed in an hour.

Re: BALLAD NO. 1 Jam

It was a compliment!:)
I never was very good at coming up with structures, I am a loose player.
With structure I really need to be in the "mood"...lol
Eventhough I know what to do, I'll end up hating what I played;)
But I always keeps playing till I get the right one down....
But if I fail to hear anything in my head I might as well pack my guitar and scuttle off:D
I had a keyboard player once, we did lots of good stuff together, I need a partner to do parts I guess;)
So I am always impressed by players who does things you do:)

Kinda the same here. When I go melodic and try to "compose" a melody, it seems to end up sounding like "Twinkle Twinkle" or something... very sing-songy.

It's in the hands... it's in the heart. Plus our ears tend to hear what they want to hear.

That could be a very good thing! You gotta capitalize on your own strengths as a gutiarist.
