Would this pedal be considered an overdrive or a distortion pedal? I've heard some good things about them and was thinking about taking a chance and ordering one. The one thing I'm leary about is this: if it is more of an OD pedal, how are the mids? The OD pedals I've tried all seem to lack in bass and the mids always seem to be way too pronounced for my liking. You know, that barking-honking sound. Any info as to the tone this pedal can produce would be helpful. Thanks.

Hey Bro,
Just sold a Barber DDSS on eBay. It is a great pedal, but i never really used it and I have so many pedals I needed the cash.
It is an overdrive that can TOTALLY get as crunchy as a hot rodded Marshall.
Tonally is has that REALLY clean break up that is not fuzzy at all. Very Marshall.
There are NO pronounced mids (like a Fulldrive or Tubescreamer). Internally there are trim pots for adjusting the bass, drive and presence. You can 100% scoop out the sound like Metallica. Absolutely.
As far as Marshallesque pedals go, I have not found one that sounds as realistic, including my original series Marshall Guv'nor.
The only thing I DIDN'T like is that the DDSS actually scoops a BIT of mids OUT of the sound. You can minimize that to a large degree, but not entirely eliminate it.
For most people looking for a metal "crunch" it is usually a non-issue. I like my mids so I didn't end up using it all that often when I have two Custom Shop Fulldrives, a TIM and a customized Texas Two Step on the way!
But for $120 with true bypass it is possibly the best deal going if you want that sort of tone.

Thanks for the info, Mac. Offhand it sound's like what I'm looking for. Crunchy (not fuzzy) with the mids a tad relaxed. As I said, it seems the OD's I've tried have this very annoying quality to the mids that really grinds on my ears. Really, it's bothersome. Think I'll check one out. Thanks again.

Different animals, but I have the regular DD and it's great...I agree with what Mac said. I think when you pull the tone pot to activate the harmonics thing, it gives the mids a *bit* of a boost but nothing like the TS9 stuff.
