Bassman vs DSL100H

I have a DSL100H that I bought new back in 2016. I loved it. Marshall sound. Boosted with a clean boost and it was even better. Well, I hate it now. It is so fizzy and thin, like a dying 9 volt. Is it the tubes? Do I just need new tubes? Or do I need to sell it for a Bassman. I think the only thing standing in my way is that it is my first stack. Opinions?

Edit: Going to retube it and give it a chance, so no regret if I do sell it.

What cabinet are you using?

I use the original DSL100 (JCM 2000 built in 1997) through a Marshall JCM800 1960A cab and it's consistently fantastic.

I use JJ 12ax7 preamp and JJ EL34 power tubes.

If it were me, I'd get the power tubes replaced and biased. For the relatively little cost of that you may get your sound back.
A set of tubes, depending on how often and how hard you drive them last about a year. Ymmv.

Agreed with swapping out the tubes. They are a consumable item and hey if it gets your tone back what's to lose really?
Good luck whatever you decide.

yes and no. the various tweed bassmans sound fairly different from each other (tv front, wide panel, narrow panel) and much different than the bf or sf versions. they can all be great amps but for very different reasons and applications

Re: Bassman vs DSL100H

I'd keep the dsl if you want more of a marshall sound,,,,,,,,,and the bassman if you want that tone.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but really are these even in the same ballpark?

Re: Bassman vs DSL100H

Pretty much. The old Marshalls were based off the sound. The type of drive I use, I would have to drive the Bassman more. My brother is the one who got me into Bassmans, and his sound is similar, although we have different styles.
