Now the whole world knows about our special maniac.
I built a guitar because I had a block of Honduran mahogany. Had that block been basswood, i wouldn't have bothered.
Didn't Fender make some guitars with pine bodies in the 50's?
Yeah I know I seen it.Not to mention this thread was posted on the SD FB page.

How does the teak sound? There's alot of the stuff here in Indonesia too. From what I know Teak is a very hard wood one of the best woods to make furniture with cause it's almost indestructible , and I guess the grain is pretty good too. My only concern with it is its very very heavy, maybe too heavy for geetars.
Two teak guitars I played were very good both, made by a local luither, with pickups he wound himself. Maybe the personnel touch counted a lot. I must say the specie of teak out here in India and surrounding South East Asia would be diff then what is in the US. An internet friend of mine swears by his custom made Neck through Teak LP, he is on this forum too but rarely post.Make it semi-hollow or full-on hollow and try it! I think it is a good idea to try any woods available and unconventional. You never know what you'll find, which is extremely fun.
I am making a guitar out of locally grown paulownia which would be an even cheaper alternative to basswood. And despite peoples gripes its resonate and full of life. :headbang:
**** i say if mother nature provided it as a tonewood it must be worth trying.
Paulownia is pretty awesome. I had about 20 Dean Vendettas at one point made of Paulownia. Just got tired of filling in the neck humbucker cavities and switched to Strats for a bit.![]()
20? say what! :notworthy
Man i have honestly never heard a solid body that was so resonate, I showed my mate last night and he couldn't believe it either. When you strum it ''unplugged'' and put your ear to the wood it sounds like an acoustic. It rings for 30-40 seconds and is like none of my other 16 guitars.

Basswood= Glorified Balsa.
No thanks, not on my guitars.
