Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

I've used the POD 2.0, V-Amp I, and J-Station and I still own the J-Station. IMO the models sound better and I really like the MIDI interface on the computer, it's like a virtual rack that opens it up for tweaking and saving. The Line 6 stuff is cool, but to me always had a buzziness to it with a thick bottom end, but thinner top end. J-Station is probably the cheapest too. I've seen them for $99 new and less used.

Here's a screen shot of the J-Station MIDI rack.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

I'd have to go with the "J" also. Got my first one new from MF for $150, second one new from same for $84. Amazing bargain.

The disadvantage, of course, that they're out of production.
Great sounds though.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

Yea, unfortunately Digitech bought the Johnson Amplification line and then let it die on the vine rather than keep it going.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

I've owned a POD, J-Station and Behringer V-Amp Pro.

The J-Station was my fave until the V-Amp Pro. That thing just kills every other modeler out there.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

i got the line6 guitar port and i swear by it for good guitar tones!

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

I like the guitar port a lot also

Though you cant go wrong with a POD or V -amp.

My guitar teacher reccomends the J-Station but I haven't any personal experience.

(well that post was useful  )

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

Boss VF-1. It does way more than amp modeliong. It also has studio and vocal effects, which come in handy when recording solo. :burnout:

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

Never tried a J-Station sounds pretty cool from what I hear from you guys though. I voted Pod 2.0, but I love the XT a bit more, those Soldano settings rip! The POD seems more dynamic and responsive, compared to the V Amp 2 which I own. The V-AMp can turn very flat in dynamics, and muddy, even buzzy on reasonable volumes. The're only two amps I like to play on that thing. Thank god I got a tube-amps in time, because this thing had gotten on my nerves and really made me skip practice some days.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

well, when i was buying the guitarport i was advise against the Vamp2, supposedly it's got ****ty modelers (the guy at the store advised me against a behringer product.. those freaks have behringer as a religion so i take it it's not as good)

the Jstation is not bad.. i heard it on the Classic records/number of the beast when adrian is playing through one and the tone is way cool, dont know how the recording thingy is though

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

AD15VT Valvetronix 15W Guitar Amp

I had a VF-1 for years. They effects are great but the amp modeling sounds like @ss.
My vote from the list goes for the J. Mine rocks, and it was cheap.
I currently use a Roland GP-100, from 95, and the amp models are wonderful, as well as the really awesome effects.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

Some people don't like them but I really like my Digitech rp50. Wouldn't be for a professional but it suits me fine for right now and it's not to expensive. I'm sure the other pedals are cool to and hopefully I will get to try them.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

i own the VOX Tonelab and the V-amp2..... the tonelab sounds alot better to my ears but for the price the v-amp is hard to beat

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

Only one I have experience with is the Boss GT-6, Great moddler and all round effects unit,,

You should definitly try out the new line6 pod xt live... Its a floor unit they have just brought out..

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

I voted for the Korg Pandora.

Here's why:

[1]QUALITY. The quality of Korg's Presets are sterling. You can use the presets as is, like I do, without even worrying about tweaking them. And when you start tweaking, it's simple and effective, which is what I like.

[2]INTUITIVE. You can basically use the Pandora without reading the manual; intuitive and friendly control, just likes I like it!!

[3]PORTABLE. This gets MAJOR points, because you can stuff batteries into it, and use it ANYWHERE! If you're just playing at home, and don't mind sitting in front of the PC, the Guitar Port may be more practical, but if you like crashing on the couch, or want music on the go, like I do, then portability wins out.

[4]Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and John Petrucci can't ALL be wrong. They all use the Pandora for cutting demos, jamming, etc. So, if it's good enough for them, it should be good enough for you.

Like I said: If you already have a rig, then the Pandora gets my vote. If you want an all-in-one thing, I would vote for the Guitar Port.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

I own the Behringer V-Ampire, the combo version of the V-Amp and get some decent tones out of it. It also has computer software that lets you tweak and save your settings via your PC much like the J-Station, which is one option I really like. So I guess I vote for it.

Re: Battle of the affordable amp Modelers!

i've got a v-amp2.....it's ok, i use it time to time for some recording, but really, i find the models pretty weak, only a few that sound any good. i basically only use it to record riffs or stuff i wanna make sure i dont forget, when it doesnt really matter how good the quality of the models are.
