belated NGD Strat MIM content

ehdwuld

A Ficus
ok so I waited a bit
but heres what happened

back in Feb, my buddy and I were in GC looking round
and saw this MIM with a Maple board and three color sunburst

the SN had a 12 for the year
no fret wear and the cellophane was still on the plastics

my buddy was jonesing for an new guitar
and had just ordered a used Samik
with a Maple board and sunburst finish
but it hadnt arrived yet

so he asked me it I thought he should get it
I told him if he didnt I was
either way it was leaving with us

so he pulled the trigger
it had just arrived the day before and still had 2 weeks on the police hold
so we got it and had to come back on March 1st

by the time we got back he had the word, that he couldnt have both
so he sold me the MIM and we got it

we compared it to the Samick head to head
we compared it to the Candy Apple Squire I got from Acesension
we did not compare it to the Ibanezes or the Jacked up Floyded superstrats
that my buddy has (these were just different animals all together)

but it just had the tone that the the others didnt
the Squire just sounded thin and weak with no bass

I love the Squire but the MIM is now my favorite
I cant stop playing it

I have put some brushed chome locking tuners on it
the Fender branded Schalers

changed the pickup covers to black
replace the knobs with knurled brass black knobs
installed a roller string tree

I will ad some images soon

thanks for your attention

I cant stop playing it

In opinion, thats a true test of a keeper..a really really good guitar. You just are impelled to keep playing cause it feels and sounds so good. Good score!

Pic?

Not to sound too demanding, but I want some pics of your new :bling:

My first guitar when I was 14 was a three-color-sunburst MIM Strat with a maple board. And I still have it! It still plays great too, although I think I may need to re-fret the lower part of the board at this point. I personally really have an appreciation for the MIM strats. My sunburst one took a while to find the pickups that suited it, but now it sounds great (it has always played great). I also have a candy-apple-red MIM blacktop strat that has sounded fantastic and played smoothly from day one. They are really great guitars! Congrats bro! The fact that you can't stop playing it says to me that it must be one hell of a player!

But seriously, pics! Show it off!

the Candy Apple Red Squire wit the new Chrome knurled knobs

the MIM
with brushed Chrome Locking Tuners ( I think they are schallers )
black Pickup covers and black knurled metal knobs

I found a deal on Amazon on
roller string trees and as the reviews said, the screws are the weakest point
go to your hardware store get better ones

also found a deal on the knurled knobs
got four for just over $4 shipped
thats four chrome and four black four bucks each set

they were a bit tight going on the CTS pots in the MIM
but slid on the Squire easily

so tight in fact, that I pushed the tone pots (yea both pots, I just wont stop) apart
the crimp that hold the pots together opened and the shaft pushed thru
I just crimped them back up
and held the back as I pushed the knobs on the second time

the pickup covers ( black ones ) were genuine fender vintage and fit perfectly

I'm loving the locking tuners
if nothing else for the ease of string changes

I may just upgrade all my axes to these

the hardtail RG2 and the floyded RG4 really dont have tuning issues but
man is it easy to string up

wonder if they make them for basses

hmmmm

the pickup routes arent HSH
not swimmy pool
but kinda Large single - large single - maybe hum

Re: belated NGD Strat MIM content

I love the grain under that burst. The black on white looks good too. Normally not my thing, but with the knurled knobs instead of standard strat knobs, it looks really clean and gives it character. Rock on! :headbang:

Just my $0.02, but on the Squier, try a mint green/black/mint green pickguard. That's what I have on my candy-apple-red MIM Blacktop Strat, and surprisingly, the colors really complement each other.

Sounds interesting .perhaps a pic would be appropriate

Re: belated NGD Strat MIM content

I was going with the black guard and white pickup tuxedo look at first
But the black guard I ordered arrived all scuffed
And I had the stuff for the reverse tux
Oh and on your candy apple that was what I had in mind for it
But I was thinking black guardand two chrome humbuckers and a replacement maple neck
