Best 6 in line tuners?

I’m blacking our the hardware on my explorer. I’ve looked at hips hot and gotoh to replace the Grover minis. Any suggestions?

Schaller, Hip Shot, and Gotoh are all good bets.

if i am buying tuners, i usually get sperzels if the hole isnt too big. easy to make a hole bigger, kinda a pita to make em smaller

Just get black Grover minis unless you want to drill new holes.

Schaller M6 180s will drop right in, but expensive and hard to find.

I've had good experiences with Schaller, Sperzel, Grover, and most recently Gotoh.

I was under the impression 10mm measurement for tuners was somewhat of a standard?

Not that I've ever heard.

When I had a les paul I used Grover locking rotomatics and they dropped right in.

Take measurements on the existing tuners and see what matches that you can buy. It'll be less hassle that way. No drilling and stuff.

My favorite tuners are either Steinbergers or LSR tuners. Problem is, they are impossible to find these days. They do have a 40:1 ratio, though.

Gotoh 510's are better than anything else I've tried, IMO (Sperzel, Grover, Planet Waves).

Non-510 Gotoh were so-so.

Tuning stability wise 20$ and 200$ have no difference at all. Backlashing tuners are a simply defect.

That can be a double edged sword though. Easier to tune more accurately, harder to tune fast. I have a V with 12:1 tuners which I use for a particular song in which I need to go from E to Eb in the course of about 30 seconds.

I have a set of Planet Waves auto-trim tuners (18:1 gear ratio). They work great and they trim off the excess string. You have to drill the holes on your head stock a little bit bigger in order to accommodate them.

Do I need to use mini tuners or will anything 6 in line work as long as the holes are right sized?

Like regular size tuners buttons etc will work?

On a friends guitar, he wanted the inexpensive 18 dollar
Musiclilly tuners from Amazon

Like the Ghoto 510 lockers my self. Really close to the Washburn labled tuners on my old mid 90's USA MG guitars which were made by Ghoto for Grover Jackson and are the absolute best i have ever used.

I normally just get gotoh as the price is good and the quality is decent. I wouldn't mind trying the graphtech ones.

Have a Chrome set of the 510's on my 2000 Mex Strat they should fit your explorer just fine.
