Best active pickups to my new Ibanez?

Hello folks! I bought today new Ibanez rg with mahogany body and neck-thru construction :). I like my new guitar very much, but the pickups left me little cold. So I'm going to replace them. I haven't ever tried any active pups, and now I think it's time to try some.

I want brutal high gain rythm sound and 80's like lead sound. So what are best actives for my new mahogany bodied Ibanez? Livewire metal? Blackouts? Or maybe emg 81-85 combo?

What you think?

try the mustaines, i have them in my bc rich (nato body maple/neck tru) and they sound awesome, really good heavy 80's thrash sound

or try an 81/60 combo

Mustaines and Blackouts are great calls. If you really want "brutal," however, you might want to wait for a new active pickup we're going to launch at NAMM...

evan since you're on i wanted to ask you something since you would be the best person on the forums to ask

let's say i wanted to grab the following set in a 7 string all LWS
(B/M/N)
Metal/Classic SC/Classic would it cost a heap more to do that or should it not me much more to do and would it have to be custom shop ordered (sorry to kinda hijack the thread for a second)

Re: Best active pickups to my new Ibanez?

custom shop active pickups are generally expensive dude :)

Re: Best active pickups to my new Ibanez?

7-string active pickups can be done, but they're super expensive.

Hmm.. This sounds very interesting!

But anyway, thanks everyone for answers! I'll start listen sound samples and try to take best actives for me. :)

Hmm...we now have a clue.

Now, I would consider the Livewires Heavy metal to be totally brutal. Is it on that kind of level of brutal? If so, that is just flat out sick.

What you think?

If you think your last ones were cold, stay far away from the EMG's.

Re: Best active pickups to my new Ibanez?

i still reckon mustaines or those new LWS evan was talking about

Re: Best active pickups to my new Ibanez?

If you ever use EMG's, make sure you wire them for 18 volts. drastic improvement in tone with less compression and clipping. Actually, I have my EMG 81/89 wired at 27 volts right now as a test LOL. probably is way overkill from 18V.

Hmmm, I think I'll hold off on a set of Blackouts.

Re: Best active pickups to my new Ibanez?

I'm curious to see what this new active pickup is... I was really disappointed with the Blackouts after the honeymoon period was over - wonder if this will be the same?

has anybody A/B'ed the Mustaines vs the Blackouts. The Mustaines sound way fuller to me than the Blackouts according to the clips (yeah, the clips lol).
