Best amp for $1,500 and under?

I'm going to be buying a 52 RI Tele and I want a good tube amp. I play indie rock along the lines of Death Cab For Cutie and The Unicorns. I don't like Fender or Marshall amps, Marshalls are too midrangey and Fenders are too tinny. My budget is around 1,500 for the amp. what do you guys think?

Mesa F series. Pick the right wattage for your needs, get a good cabinet, and thank me later.
These amps are versitle as hell!

I was gonna suggest a Bassman LTD, but you already know that Fenders are too "tinny" ;)

I catch your drift, fenders just arent my thing, i've played most every one they make and i just cant get along with them.

If he thinks fenders are too tinny and marshalls are too midrangy....

Than I don't think he's looking for a tube amp.

Try a randall RG80 or 100.

that's cool ... I'm just basing what I said on the fact that my 50s style teles sound great through tweed type amps

but you should get what you like ... the Zs are cool

Re: Best amp for $1,500 and under?

well, im getting the 52 because its the nicest lefty they offer IMO. I've already bought a Classic stack for the bridge and a quarter pound for the neck. my two fav tele pickups.

i was thinking maybe an orange? i havent had any first hand experience with them though. anyone have one?

Re: Best amp for $1,500 and under?

If I had 1500 clams to part with for an amp (must be a goooooood feeling!!) I'd talk to a skilled amp builder and go through exactly what power, features, tone, etc you want from the amp.

Maybe a low wattage amp. that has everything you want/need could be built for around that price.

This is assuming that you want a tube amp.
If not, I have no idea as to what to suggest.

Good luck.

Let us know what you decide/buy.

Engl Blackmore, 4 channels, nice clean, killer crunch and great super high gain leads.

You're probably right with that Mephis.

I would suggest a Randall too except that you want to play more Indie Rock. Randalls are great amps but in my experience they aren't too versatile. At least their SS stuff wasn't... they have their new Valve-Dynamic technology so maybe they've got something that could suit you.

Re: Best amp for $1,500 and under?

If Marshalls are sounding too midrangey and Fenders are sounding too tinny, it is time to get a better set of pickups!!! and maybe a new guitar.

Thanks LesStrat

+100,000,000 and counting

That's the point I was making.

What would I give to have an expert builder create an amp. totally to my specs !! ...wipes tears from his eyes...(and I'd keep it very simple with quality components and a total focus on tone, meaning not on power...says to himself "I can see and hear it now" lol

Re: Best amp for $1,500 and under?

non-marshall marshall plexi head (kit made ones) $1000-$1200 + $300 2x12 avatar cab
